Bruce Carter

On separate radio interviews, they asked this question to Durant and then later to Church.

They even asked Church "what about Dez" and he said, that Carter was definitely his choice. He made a vague reference to "numbers" which I took to mean testing that they do in the weight room and sprint times. He also mentioned his vert.

Not surprising. I remember reading when we drafted him.....that he was a gym rat. And this was with a steady diet of McDonalds from what I recall. Once he starts to ingest a "professional" diet on a consistent basis....his play will go to the next level. As many of us that lift eventually figure out....diet is the biggest contributor to achieving fitness goals...as opposed to working out.

Carter seems a reasonable choice, but I'd like a few guys on O to weigh in. My guess is that Dez (and maybe Tyron) would get more votes from guys that line up on the same side of the ball.

What do you think of us using him a WDE on pass rush situations??

Depends what your definition of "athletic" is.

Purely from a size, speed, strength, vert, bench, all rolled into one combo, Carter may be the most athletic.

But if I could look like any Cowboys player, I'd pick Dez.

Don't see how it would be any different than what Spencer was doing against HOU (staying upright pre snap) similar to his role as OLB in the 3-4. Not like anyone else is providing outside pressure @ this point so could be something to try out just cuz. Same idea regarding Sam. Mincey has looked okay out there in that zone blitz scheme I've been noticing more the last few weeks.

It would have to be definite passing only situations. You don't want him at DE if it's a running play.

They've been doing some zone blitz type stuff recently. This is where they drop a DL into shallow coverage and blitz another player from the other side.

They could drop Mincey into coverage from his RDE spot and blitz Carter from his SLB spot on the opposite side.

Body control has to enter into the equation. In fact, to me, it's the biggest part of the equation. I think it's where Dez makes up any ground he loses to others in terms of brute speed.

Could also pass rush as LEO like Bruce Irvin does for the Seahawks.

Carter was always said to be a great athlete.
And people scoffed at Jerry Jones, when he said...hey, don't give up on this guy....

If you scoffed at everything Jerry says you'd be right more times then you were wrong.

We're 4-1 and finally off to a good start for once and people act like we owe Jerry and Jason some kind of apology for being horrible for so long.

They finally took the fans and medias advice and invested in a OLine and run game and they are having success and we're supposed to thank him? He should be thanking us for giving him a clue.

I don't want Bruce near being a DE. We already pretty thin on linebackers and giving him a more reason to be hurt by pitting him against 300lbs off. tackles is not a great idea.

I watched film of Demarcus Lawrence and they would rotate him around the LOS which was successful for Boise St. in generating a pass rush. I think that we can use Lawrence in that same capacity like he was an OLB on a 3-4 defense.

I don't think so. this was their plan, but can't do it all in one year. However Jason got rid of many older overpaid players in a year. Actually 2 years, but takes longer to replace them.
If they need to take advice from fans and media, they don't need to be in the NFL [I know what comments will be made or thought]. and if the fans and media believe the team took their advice and had an influence...I have some bridges in NY to sell you.
And no one said give them an apology, but too bad way too many fans & media just don't understand, or try to, on how things need to work.

Bruce Carter has and always has been a Sam linebacker. He played SILB in the 3-4 where he excelled, and now he's finally playing SOLB in the 4-3, and he's been playing well.

He never was a Will. They tried it based on numbers, but that's just not his game. I'm glad they finally wised up. Now all we need to do is finally somehow convince them to put Sean Lee at the Will. He'll probably lead our team in INTs.

Yeah.. It was their plan after they trotted out smoke and mirrors on the Oline.

Just last year we couldn't even get them to run the ball and finally they got a real playcaller and replaced one of the worst I've ever seen.

Jason Garrett made a comment...in the past we were using smoke and mirrors to produce...but now we have the OL, so we can do what we want to do.
Bringing in Linehan has bee a big difference too of course.
