Im sure most of you already know this but the genius on nfl network reported that the oakland raiders will franchise tag Asomugha and Seatlle will most likely not franchise Trufant and let him test the open market. What are your thoughts?

I like picking the under appreciated from Seattle but he's gonna want big $$$$:D

He'll be too expensive, plus it didn't work out too well for Denver bringing in a second high priced corner opposite Champ. I'd rather draft a guy (or two).

True, however with Denver that have such a bad pass rush that even Champ had an off year. They Dline is horrible (Moss has potential) and they have never been much of a blitz happy team under Shanahan.

If we can pick him up for a REASONABLE contract (3 yr 14-15 ml) I say do it. In my opinion getting another solid corner solves alot of our problems on defense.

Someone (possibly Seattle) will overpay for Trufant. He gets beaten a lot, but he'll be paid for his seven interceptions. Considering that he had a combined two interceptions in the two previous seasons, it's doubtful that he ever gets seven again -- and he probably will never even come close to that.

Newman, for hgis career, hasnt been an interception machine either. Cowboys fans of all people should know thats interceptions arent always the most telling stat for a DB. Trufant is better than any DB on this team not from K-State.

Trufant is better than Reeves. He might not be much better than Henry right now.

When I was talking about his interceptions, it's because that's what will get him a lot of money. But he's not normally a big interceptions guy, and he has NEVER been a shutdown cornerback. At least with Newman (who typically gets three or four interceptions each season, which isn't bad), you're getting one of the better shutdown cornerbacks in the NFL. With Trufant, you're getting a guy who gets beaten more than you'd like, and if he doesn't get those interceptions, you'll be quite disappointed.

we can't afford either so none of them is going to happen unless we don't resign Flozell which would be a big mistake

I go CB in the first and again in day 2.

We need to sign a seconf tier CB free agent like Florence from SD.
Then use a 1st on another CB.
This position has hampered this team for too long, so hopefully with the age at the position we make moves to improve it.

A good second tier CB to replace Reeves would be excellent!

It will be cheaper to franchise Trufant which is what I would have done. Simple fact, he is a great CB. Just not always consistently a great CB. Why, I don't know. Maybe he lacks consistent drive.

He is damn talented though and that cannot be disputed.

i say go after florence and gay in FA use 1st pick on a rb and second 1st to detroit for roy, or second if we can give it for him then draft a wr or cb with the other 1st rounder. jmo:D

He would solve our needs.....some of them anyhow.

Not unless he is offering a discount for his services. It would be way to much money tied up into the defensive backfield.

We simply cannot afford at this point to have another highly paid DB. Even if we didn't re-sign Hamlin, we'd still be spending a ton in the 2ndary with Newman coming up on a big payday.

I don't see us being big FA players this year -- we've spent on our own guys and should continue to do so as for the first time in forever, we have good players that we want to keep.

If Seattle lets Trufant walk they're stupid. As stupid as they were when they let Hutch walk out. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

That said...he'll want too much money for Dallas to take a serious look at him. The guy in Oakland will get the Tag meaning we won't even consider looking his way. Jerry is not going to give up 2 #1's, again, for a franchised player.

I would give up our 2 #1s for hte CB in Oakland (Asomugha). Quite frankly, I think he is hte best free agent out there. He is a lesser-known free agent because he gets no press for being on a bad team, but this guy can play zone and man, he closes in on the ball well, and even lunges for the INT with his hands. He's als a tall CB (about 6'2") and can leap pretty welll, so he defends the jump balls in the end-zone corners as well as anyone. He and Newman would solidify our CB position for years ot come.
