ASPCA Announces Partnership with NFL on Education Initiative
To support its players, the NFL makes several presentations to its teams each year on a range of issues. This initiative will draw on the ASPCA’s expertise to enhance awareness in the NFL on the proper treatment of animals.
“The ASPCA’s mission remains as vital today as it was 141 years ago—to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals,” said Ed Sayres, president & CEO of the ASPCA. “We do this every day through various outbound communications, as well as through our cause-marketing relationships with corporate entities and our Humane Education department. The ASPCA also serves in an advisory capacity on humane animal care standards to corporations and industry around the country.
“This initiative is a natural extension of our existing education and advisory outreach. We applaud the NFL for taking the responsibility to educate its players and teams on the importance of caring properly for animals and helping raise awareness for everyone about this issue.”
The NFL’s education and training programs for players are designed to help ensure that the NFL and its teams are respected in their communities.
“Our mission in Player Development is to assist our players in being productive citizens on and off the football field,” said NFL Vice President of Player Development Mike Haynes. “We appreciate the ASPCA’s support in helping us deliver the right messages about animal care. We look forward to working with the ASPCA on other joint ventures.”
The ASPCA will explore other opportunities with the NFL to advise the league and raise awareness on the importance of the humane treatment of animals, which could include working locally with NFL teams in their markets.
