Clinton Portis is a system back, as many suspected.

Discuss amongst yourselves . . .

:D

Let's not omit his 4 fumbles (3 lost) in only 4 games....that's awful.
He's still a fine back, and I'd love to have him, but he was not worth giving up Champ Bailey and a 2nd rounder....and he's certainly not the best running back in the NFL, despite his salary demands.

Maybe Washington's o-line hasn't learned how to constantly break the rules yet like the Bronco's have.

Ain't that the truth dog. Denver's Oline can do whatever they want and it's called good blocking, or a fantastic scheme.

We try the same stuff, and it's a penalty. And not just that, if our guys become too dominant, the league names rules after them.

Back to the main subject, I think Portis is a top five back with some of the best feet in all of football. When the trade came out, I thought the Skins got the better part of the deal. I still think they did.

The problem with Portis is that his O-line flat out stinks, and his legendary head coach left his genius license in the trunk of one of his race cars. I think Portis will get his yards and have some big games, but due to his bad supporting cast he will be very inconsistent from week to week.

Indeed they have.

There is just something really funny about watching the Skins get their hopes up every off-season, only to have them crash and burn as the season progresses.

Good times.

Today my wife said,"you must really like those Commanders sites, you've been on them for a week now." I told her that nothing makes the bye week go faster than enjoying the suffering of Skins fans as the bottom once again falls out on their season.

Midswat, you should also consider that those stats are inflated by his 64 yard TD run on the opening carry of the season... since that memorable debut, his YPC is just 3.3...

But it's not so much that he's a "system back", as it is that the Skins' offensive line sucks, especially in comparison with the Broncos'...

Portis can play but he's no LT or Priest Holmes and given the price the Skins paid and their offense around Portis they needed him to be.

The Skins offense as a whole is just really inconsistent. The WRs drop too many balls, the QB has streaks of inaccuracy, Portis has big gains than too many runs of next to nothing.
