Seattle will win the West with at best a 9-7 record.
The 5th seed will have at best a 9-7 record.
The 6th seed will have at best an 8-8 record.

Have there ever been 3 teams in the playoffs with less than 10 wins from a single conference? This is pretty pathetic.

This is not totally correct. although I don't want to list the way in which it could be wrong.

If by some miracle Philly beats us tomorrow and both us & Philly win the last week of the season, we would be the 5 seed and be 10-6.

Damn that is right. I forgot they only have 6 losses.

In 1989 only the the 11-5 Broncos had more than 9 wins in the entire AFC. 9-6-1 Cleveland was the second seed.

Four 9-win teams made it in.

No no no, that can't be right. You have to be making that up. Now is the time of parity. 1989 was before the salary cap, all there was back then was some dominant teams, and a lot of also rans. You can't have sub 10 win teams making the playoffs back then. Only now with parity. You must be mistaken.

2004 nfc playoffs. Only Philadelphia (13-3), Atlanta (11-5) and Green Bay (10-6) had 10+ wins. Seattle (9-7), St. Louis (8-8) and Minnesota (8-8) all qualified.

Although unlikely, it is possible that a 7-9 team could get in since none of the teams with 7 wins plays each other. That would really be a joke.
