At the beginning of the season, what were your expectations for the 2024 season?

I was absolutely disgusted after the worst offseason I've ever seen topped with that ridiculous Dak contract right before kickoff. I had zero expectations. Basically what happened over the course of 11 weeks was on par for this front office and their lack of effort to improve the team after that playoff debacle.

My expectations were a 10-7 season.

I recognized that this team wouldn't have deep squads with the exception of DE and CB. I figured with those two squads they might take an injury hit and still be okay. They would have to be injury free at other positions.

When Sam Williams went down before the season I was concerned but not really worried. When Tank and Micah went down I knew the team was in trouble defensively.

Diggs and Bland, two All-Pro CB's have yet to play together. Caelon Carson, a rookie, has participated in 6 of the 11 games played. His backup, Andrew Booth, played in 3 games. Then Amani Oruwariye participated in 4 games. Last Sunday it was Josh Butler.

I had felt that the Cowboys would start out struggling a little, perhaps 4-4 after 8 games. I then felt that, due to their youth, they would begin to improve each week. They would begin to come together around late November and peak at just the right time for the playoff. They would follow a 4-4 first half with a 6-3 2nd half.

The whole preseason I felt that, any day, they would announce a trade for a RB or they would sign someone at the end of preseason that was cut by another team. I never dreamed they would go into the season with just Dowdle and what little was left of Ezekiel Elliot.

So, as we all know, there was more than just a single injury to the DE and CB squads. They were devastated. The Cowboys lost both starting DE's and their two backups. Add that to the issues at CB and this defense was rendered practically impotent.

Once the injuries brought down the DE's and CB's, it started hitting elsewhere. The Cowboys were deep at TE with young talent but that squad got trimmed. I was excited about the emergence of Tolbert but Cooks has been out since game #4. everyone on the O-line has been banged up. Then Dak went down.

In my defense, I've always proclaimed in my predictions, "barring extensive injuries". I thought that would be unlikely, believing that the Cowboys were owed a healthy season if the Law of Averages were balanced.

Some of the previously injured are trickling back into the lineup. The ten days after the Thanksgiving game before they play he Bengals should heal and rest a lot of players. However, the highest probability is that it's too late for this team to reverse their fortunes.

Today, it looks as though 8-9 will be the Cowboys 2024 record.

I was expecting around five wins, an implosion, and a mid-season firing.

5-12 but it looks like with Rush they might get 6 or 7 wins.

My expectations were low given the inactivity by the FO in improving the team after the embarrassing beatdown at the hands of GB.
At the very least, the FO should have upgraded the RB position with a player the defense has to respect (ie. Henry) and NOT Zeke Elliott. And maybe improve the depth on the OL, DL, LB and WR; failure to find a feature RB and legit #2 WR has hamstrung the offense. Of course, the conservative playcalling doesn’t help things.
I was also against Jerry extending Dak; I don’t think Dak is a bad QB, but let’s face it he wasn’t worth $40 MM and certainly isn’t worth $60 MM. You don’t pay QBs that type of money who requires playmakers at every level to be effective. Now Jerry is stuck with Dak for the near-term, whose mobility will be even more hampered next year due to injury.
I don’t see how the Cowboys can rebuild given their lack of resources and the reticence (or refusal) of the FO to improve the team. I think their ignorance and arrogance clouds their judgement thinking the team is better than they actually are.
I’m sure Jerry thinks the gifted victory in DC means Dallas has turned the corner…not very likely.
Still see a .500 team this year and maybe even next year.

Pretty much exactly how it has played out: Trainwreck on the field, gaslighting from the owner's box.

I felt it was gonna be a tough year because of the non-moves done by Jerry. 7 or 8 wins max. They didn’t disappoint. I overestimated them. The team lacks a lot of talent, but the worst is the FO.

Roughly what you were before Dak got hurt: hovering around .500 and challenging for a wild card

8-9 to 10-7

I thought the loss of FA, bad drafts and lame duck coaching staff would hurt. Didn’t think it would be this bad.

I thought maybe 9-8 and get the 7th seed was best case scenario.

I knew there was zero chance it would be a “good” team capable of actually competing for a championship. Anybody who thought that was lying to themselves.

I had them going 3rd in the division with 6-11.

1. Eagles
2. Commanders
3. Dallas
4. Giants

But now with Rush playing they might shatter my prediction. I did not expect that our bum would take his injury timeout when things get rough. I was wrong but i promise i will get better at it.

Were your expectations high, low, in the middle, as the season went along have your expectations changed??? I think a lot of us didn't have high expectations based on our off season or lack there of. For some knowing that we had Dak and Lamb locked up could have given some hope. Interested in seeing what your thoughts are on this!!
I took note of how this 12-5 team took 1 step forward and 3 steps back as far as personnel and I was expecting a 10-7 season with playoffs against teams not named 49ers or Packers.
I was so naive.
Why? Why? Why?

If memory serves, and I make no promises about that memory stuff, I think I foolishly went with about 8 or 9 wins.

I had us as 8 to 9 wins with making the play offs (and then the inevitable quick exit there). After our 3-5 start I was hoping we'd totally tank and get a high draft pick. I don't need anymore wins this season.

I had us at 8-9 but I had a feeling this season could derail. Just thought there were enough mediocre teams to keep us competitive.

I figured we'd take a couple steps back from 12 wins.
Figured that Zimmer's D would be a downgrade from Quinn's D.
Figured we needed a better RB and assumed our OL would struggle because of youth.
I did not have high hopes, but thought we might win 9-10 games.
Did not think jerruh was doing much to try to improve.
