Like Roy Williams said they are going to keep the base offense but change it up a bit...if we are going to keep everyone and bring them back which is stupid, then all we can do is to change the offense around to get TO the ball where he needs to get it like San Fran did...put a west coast tint to the offense, you cant change the whole thing...but if you are going to have TO on the team and you want everything to be ok then he needs to get the ball ALOT...

But not like the way we were forcing it to him, he needs to get it in the open field...cross routes...things like that...thats the only way it will work...then he will be happy and the people that have taken his side will be happy. The team will be happy. Thats the only way to make this work since jerry is going to be stupid and not get rid of Wade...i do think that this is what they are going to do.

Or the other reason that TO may not have been as effective this year is Father Time is catching up to him - he is 35 yo.

I thought the whole reason to bring in RW was for him to become the #1 - well we should probably institute that this offseason. He is in his 6th season, so if he is going to be a #1 it should be possible next year. With the added attention to RW, TO should get some more favourable matchups with the safety no longer shaded his way as much.

My guess is that cap considerations will force Jerry to keep T.O. and all other guys with lots of time left on their contracts so that he can sign Demarcus Ware to a big bonus long term contract so he's stuck with the players he has even if he wanted to cut them.

He's not going to be active of FA, except to lock up Ware, this year and has no first round draft choice.

Oops.

Fortunately there's a cap-free year coming up in 2010 and that is where Billionaire Jones will be active.

Like it or not, looks like the fans are stuck with T.O., Hotel and/or any others some fans might prefer not to see next season.

Seems to me like General Manager Jones has a management problem and may need to learn about the art of motivating people.

Jerry has to learn when to let players go - even good players. He has this habit of extending very old players to very lucrative long-term contracts the year before their contract is up. It really makes no sense to me since the market for such players is usually overestimated and you still have the grace of riding it out one more year to see how their health holds up.

Jerry's re-signing mistakes of the past year include Flo, TO, TNew, Barber and Hamlin. The good moves included letting Columbo play out his deal, re-signing Ratliff before he broke out, letting Canty play out his deal.

How crippled we will be in the long-run depends on whether we do end up with an uncapped year. An uncapped year will let us get rid of some unwanteds such as Hamlin & TO and perhaps trade some parts that we can do without: Flo, Barber.

Seems readily apparent to me that he's just as fast and strong as he's ever been. A guy that can beat Felix Jones in a foot race doesn't lack physical prowess.

Agreed. There is nothing wrong with the base offense. Execution is lacking. Playcalling should be adjusted better to fit each game.

Agreed again. San Fran was able to get TO the ball. Eagles and McNabb were able to get TO the ball.... but Tony and Cowboys are having trouble. Fix that and all is well.

He is performing better at 35 than ALOT of younger WR's. But dont go with facts.

You thought?? = wrong.

Never, ever has it been said that Roy was brought in to be #1 over Owens.
It was supposed to be to get some pressure off Owens so Owens could flourish and this offense could REALLY TAKE OFF.

Roy only becomes #1 when Owens finishes contract or at best Owens and Williams go 1 or 1a alternating.

Not arguing about his long speed but rather quickness, ability to get off the line and RAC - long speed is still good for TO. Everyone starts to slow down in their mid-30s and I think we'll look back in a couple of years and realize that 2007 was the last year that he was still a dominant #1 type WR.

He beats the jam just fine. Seriously, go back and watch several games and just focus on him. He's getting open.

TO is definitely starting to slip - RW11 has to become at least the co-#1 next season as his star needs to rise as TO's starts to descend. RW is 26 - this is WR primetime. He needs to step up for our passing game to take it to the next step. I'm hoping for a repeat of this 3rd year in the league. We need to start building our passing game around his strengths.

RW11 is definitely starting to slip, himself. I mean, his production was waaaayyyy down this year. Oh wait....

Every WR is open a fair bit of the time - it depends on whether he is open at the right time and in the right place.

I know RW11 is slipping - that's why I argued against making the trade in the first place. We have to revive his career because of what we gave up for him - we are tied to him for a few years so we've got to get him to play to his abilities which are considerable. I don't know if we can but we've got to try.

Oh dear. It was a joke to point out how ridiculous your claim was.

Statistically you can prove TO is slipping. 10 TD's and 1,000+ yards with Romo missing 3 games and our offense blowing chunks in a bunch of games this year.

This offense doesnt execute. Not enough discipline on route running, playcalling or Romo decision making. All are accountable.... or should be.

RW will accell when offense gets on track.

I know its popular to say "Owens is slipping or losing a step" or "Owens is 35 so he MUST BE less effective"

Fact is... ALOT of things are going wrong at once... so you cannot say these things are in fact happening.

I do agree many things went wrong on offense this year. The two biggest events were Romo's injury and Kosier's injury.

I think the ultimate key to getting us back on track is improving OL play. I think the starters are good when healthy but the line should not disintegrate as much as they did when Kosier went out. Some of that may be on Proctor but I do think Houck has to be held responsible as well because of how long it took him to get Holland ready and how bad the OL handled stunts and blitzes this year.

To me, the big keys to getting us back on tracK:

1. Improve OL depth
2. Improve blitz pickup
3. Commit to the running game with whoever wins the battle in TC: Choice, Felix, Barber - I really don't care but let the best back win.
4. Commit to more short routes in the passing game for WRs
5. Get the WRs to run their routes as designed and run decoy routes with conviction - Romo and them need to get on the same page
6. More screens to Felix and Choice, please
7. Shore up ST coverage units
8. Work on punt return blocking unit

If we do all of those things there is no reason we can't take the division and win 12 games next year.

I honestly don't think the key to winning football games is to get the ball to TO at all costs. He should be a weapon that we exploit when possible but I don't think we should be building our offensive strategy around him anymore because he is starting to slip. Having the defense focus more on a resurgent running game should open things up for him and allow him to ultimately be more productive.

I really have never like the RW11 trade because I think he would have been ours if we were patient enough to wait until the offseason and have never liked to acquire players with questions about toughness/attitude. But we have got to try and make this work given how much we have invested in him. The talent is there - it is up the OC/WR coach to get him to play to his ability.

I agree with just about everything in your post. Number 1-8 are "spot on".

I do think that we shouldnt have lost (Zona, Louis, Pitt, Balt) games. All there to be had and nothing to do with injuries.

Even though RW didnt work out this year. I am glad we got him midseason. That whole "newness" factor WONT be a factor going into training camp. He is already familiar.

The picks are what they are.

I am glad to have him.

Fix the o-line and the passing game is back. Romo can't throw off his back for ever.

:hammer:

They forget about that early season hawk down though "while blocking for his teammate". That TO sure is old & selfish..

Maybe he aged between early in the season and now...lol
