At what point can we build this team through the draft, and free agency?

The lack of playoff success shows that they are not.
You think the Cowboys are a below average drafting team and that is what's causing the consistent playoff losses?

No.

Coaching matters. FA matters. There is a lot more that goes into winning playoff games than just drafting.

Chiefs just traded for a WR because they think they need him to win in the playoffs. Are they a bad drafting team also?

They are constantly looking for ways to upgrade the talent on the team.

The problem is, they are only looking.

You didn't address all the high draft busts I mentioned. Picking out just one item doesn't work.

Chiefs are a good drafting teams. Do I need to go over all the high draft picks that have worked out for them that has contributed mightily to their winning? Chris Jones, Derrick NNadi, and George Karlaftis are all studs on the DLine. Creed Humphrey is the best C in the game.

What are you seeing that makes you claim they are a bad drafting team?

This building through the draft thing from the Cowboys has netted us some good players, but the results are the same. We pay our own talent, but miss out on talent from other players in the league that could help these drafted players to get us wins. Do the Cowboys not realize that they need more than just these drafted players. We need more, we need to stop complaining about what we don't have, and do the opposite of what we've been doing over the last several years. I hope things change, maybe with the extra money teams will have with the TV deals will motivate them to spend.

I'm not advocating to sign EVERY big name player every year, but at least try instead of saying we can't do it! You never know what you can do in life until you try!!! Please give your thoughts
Good stuff.

I think we’ve been drafting well.

some of the picks have not played out well.

mazi, schoon…

with UFA, the draft is critical.

In this league the salary cap gives you an ultra short window to make use of a player's talent before he has to be paid a king's Ransom.

That's difficult as it is to do you need to get rid of these players before they need to be paid get multiple draft picks for them and keep young players on their rookie contracts playing for your team.

But you have to have an elite coaching staff that is able to develop players quickly.

Players like Dak CD and Micah need to be turned into draft picks before they cost the team a fortune if you can turn each one of those guys into two number one picks and the number two now you can build a team economically.

Then after you stockpile pics and fill your positions having tons of cap space because these young players are on rookie contracts you fill the holes with select free agents.

We built a couple decent teams over the past 20 years. Through the draft and free agency. The missing pieces have been coach and quarterback. Those are the 2 positions you must solve before you move forward.

Jerry seems pretty entrenched right now so I do not see him dipping into free agency anytime soon.

Free agency is a tool, not an answer. When they have a good team and specific holes to fill in the roster, I think free agency is teh right answer. Signing 1 or two in the offseason to me is not going crazy, it just makes sense.

I believe if they can upgrade any position, especially weaknesses, through free agency they should make it happen. DTs for example, are better taken in free agency than the draft where the Cowboys have not been very good drafting them.
Let's see Derrick Henry or a combination of Zeke, Dowdle and Vaughn. That was not a football decision, that was a business decision.

Let's see Demarco Murray or Joseph Randle. That was not a football decision, that was a business decision

Let's see Amari Cooper or a WR on one leg Gallup. That was not a football decision, that was a business decision.

Let's see Emmit is holding out and I don't want to pay him. That was not a football decision, that was a business decision.

Jerry runs the Cowboys as a business FIRST....if we are lucky and talented enough (like we were in 1992 when Emmit held out) to win in spite of this....congratulations!!!!!!!!!

Otherwise, I will just keep counting my money and blame the greedy players....while I continue to build the richest "sports" team in the history of sports off the backs of us delusional fanatic fans!!!!!!!!!!!

When we walk away from Dak. More wheel spinning until then.

Might have a ray of hope if we'd hire someone like Bellychickens.
The only glimmer of hope i had for change was that small window of time when MM, Dak and Ceedee were all lame duck employees

It was the PERFECT storm in which a new HC could have come in here and change the trajectory of this team

A new HC still may have wanted to sign Dak and Ceedee but at least he would OWN it......as it stands now the next HC lives with Jerry's decisions at the most important position on a team

Coog, it's perfectly fine the Joneses go on family vacation at the start of FA, just let McClay handle everything along with the other guys in the building. The Joneses should get away and stay away during that time and trust the professionals (football guys) to do the job. Only then will you see a proper team built.

People have now declared this so much they are starting to believe it.

If you really believe this, go back 4-5 yrs and examine our 1st/2nd round picks. Mazi/Trysten/Kelvin/Sam Williams/Schooner. All recent 1st or 2nd round picks.

And meanwhile, think about this. The draft is there to improve your team. Soooo, why can we still not stop the run? Why can't we run the ball? Why do we have no starting quality RB's on the roster? And only 1 starting quality LB?

A good drafting team would absolutely not have this many holes on the roster. I think you guys are just repeating this mantra w/o evaluating the veracity thereof.

Did you know that LVE was injury prone throughout his college career? Bad pick.

And DT. You will not compete for a super bowl w/ subpar DT's. I mean, show me one team that made the super bowl w/ weak DT's.
