Just finished watching the final regular season game of the 1991 season on the NFL Network. I love watching these old games for various reasons.

Obviously, to relive some of the old days. Maryland, Harper, Larry Brown, and Big E were rookies. Emmitt won the rushing title on that day by going over 150. Yes we had a great line, but Emmitt made A LOT of people miss him. Irvin was fantastic as well, with his 7th straight 100 yard game by going over 150. The defense was OK, but you could tell we were missing a pass rusher (Jimmy got Haley that following offseason).

But its also neat to see some guys from the other team. Brett Favre was the 3rd string QB for the Falcons behind Chris Miller and Billy Jo Tolliver. Jerry Glanville was the head coach and June Jones was the OC. Jamie Dukes was the center and of course the Falcons had Deion and Andre Rison. Brian Jordan was the starting safety. Most know him from his days playing baseball for the Cardinals.

Anyhow, I'm sure they'll replay it again. If you get the chance, check it out. The depth that Jimmy was able to stock pile through the draft was unbelievable. A lot of the reserve players on that team became the core for the three super bowl teams.

And we had nothing to play for that day. Doubly impressive.

That's the kind of coach we need today. I'm not saying bring back Jimmy. But we need a coach that demands the best out of everyone all the time.

Didn't hurt that the reserves were just as good as the starters at most positions.

The salary cap stipulations messed up the quality of football to me...

I watched this game one day in the summer.

If our team played that exact game sunday, the fans on this message board would go nuts and whine about everything.

In the fourth qtr, atlanta missed a field goal. We had the lead 31-27.

Irvin fumbled the ball backed to atlanta and we stopped them.

then emmitt fumbled the ball back to them.

With no timeouts they went right up the field and we stopped them on the final play.

During the final drive, jimmy took his headset off and was doing nothing but walking up and down the sideline! After the game was over he didnt shake glanville's hand and just waved and ran back to the tunnell.

The people on this site would bananas if that same scenario played out sunday. Can you imagine wade taking his headset off on the final drive of the game!!!!! JJT would have a heart attack.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I believe the Jimmy deal was about Glanville if I can recall correctly. They weren't too fond of one another.

That's the beauty of those teams. They were built through the draft, for the most part. Yeah, we added a few pieces here and there. But then teams were built through the draft.

Now, most teams try to build through free agency. As our hated rivals have proven time and time again, that is a recipe for failure. Let's just hope they continue to support that theory and we get back to building through the draft.

I agree... I've always been a fan of drafting and developing talent.

Yeah, but did you notice the announcers say we had the 2nd FEWEST penalties in the league that year?

Likewise. It was about the game and nothing else.

Add that to the fact that the crowd was doing some idiotic and loud Dallas Cowboys chant while we were on offense and Beuerlein threw his interception and you have CBZ gold...

Three things about this game that stood out to me were how conservative they were on offense, how many different players the offense used and the effectiveness of the slants to Michael Irvin on big third downs.

Garrett has to get Bennett and the running backs more involved the offense and they have to use RW to his strength on underneath routes. There is no reason he cant become more of a go to guy on 3rd downs. He and Witten should be a force in those situations, but I dont think either is being used wisely.

ACHEman needed to nut up and play, this guys not gonna lead us anywhere sitting on the bench, color me skeptical on this number 1 pick. I'm officially worried. :p:

I cant even imagine if message boards existed back then...or wait, yes I can.

Yeah. Can you imagine heading into 1992 training camp? "QB Competition in training camp!" Beuerlein led us to a 4-0 record to close the season, and helped close out the Commander game when Aikman left injured, then won our wildcard game in Chicago. He's won all of the big games! Aikman's an injury prone bust who makes too much money!"

:laugh1:
