Ehhh...if he's being released, BSPN will be all over it, Insiders are just a revenue generating tease, all bark no bite news.

It's the same basic BS but here is a snippet:

The key date to remember here is June 1. If the Rams haven't figured out a way to ink Atogwe to a long-term deal by then, they'll either have to pay him 110 percent of his 2009 salary or he'll be an unrestricted free agent. At that point, we expect a team like the Jacksonville Jaguars -- who just lost out on Sharper, and need safety help badly -- to pounce.
They also mention a few other teams in the running (Dolphins and Raiders)

Then Mosley chimes in and says the Cowboys could use the help, and lists all the bad safeties we've had since DW.

Fiance subscribed me to the magazine and it comes with a free insider account, it was actually pretty useful for news/scouting info and crap during the draft.

We are not signing Atogwee, you guys need to let it go.

The second we drafted AOA, that ended any chance at signing a vet at FS. The reason is because AOA is penciled in as the starter by next year at the latest, and any vet we sign is going to want a multiyear deal. So why would Atogwee or any other vet sign with Dallas if they know the future FS is already on the roster???

Alan Ball and Mike Hamlin will fight it out for who is going to keep the seat warm until AOA is ready.

I'm hoping Tom Benson decides to pinch pennies and release Jamal Brown. The have Bushrod (JAG) and Charles Brown, Could happen.

I'm surprised the Cowboys weren't mentioned first. We must be slipping.

LMAO @ Jacksonville "missing out on Darren Sharper". I don't think anyone missed out on a player who just had microfracture surgery. More like they wouldn't return his agent's phone calls.

How is AOA next year's FS? :laugh2: the guy has never played big league college ball let alone a snap in the NFL

Saturday blurb from Calvin Watkins ESPNDallas

"I was told this afternoon, yet again, that the Cowboys have no interest in Sharper. I asked a front office official about OJ Atogwe and was told he is pricey. The team is sticking with Ball and Hamlin."

I am afraid you are right.

For our peace of mind, I hope Atogwe really is as bad off injury-wise as believed. If he has a sports hernia and his shoulder, I could at least feel somewhat comfortable not pulling out all the stops to sign him. If not, then it is a blunder that will probably be viewed as a missed opportunity for years.

I realize the team has faith in two very untested youngsters, but it is time to get a playmaker at safety. It would open up the defense so much. We do not need "enough to get by", which is what I think Ball is. It might work for Free, but we are rolling the dice with Ball as he did not even show as much as Free did when he filled in last year. Hamlin has promise, but so did Patrick Watkins very early in his career.

As for Ansah, one of the reasons I liked the choice so much is that he gave us options to use at safety OR cornerback. I wouldn't be so quick to just assume he's going to be a safety only. It would be a new position for him in addition to the natural learning curve associated with his jump from 1-AA football.

Yeah shoulder surgery and a sports hernia will do that to ya :laugh2:

Like you'd know about sports hernias... :D

Rams have until June 1st where he will be owed 7 mill however the Rams have also stated they are looking at trying to get a long term deal done with him.

I agree. The organization has not even talked about looking for a safety. They have mentioned trying to get some depth at the OL and I think that is where the focus will remain not a S looking for a long term deal.

This...

Then again, I mean who could forget all the past up and coming, starting CB/FS? Legends like...

DeAngelo Smith
Pat Watkins
Bruce Thornton
Pete Hunter
Kareem Lattimore
Duane Goodrich

I will say that I feel very confident that AOA in a year or two will have a 70% chance at taking Watkins spot as .... a gunner on STs, at the very least.

Let's wait until potential is proven on the field before giving him a starting spot.

I have a higher level of confidence in Ansah's abilities than I did of any of these players. Most were unreliable (Goodrich), outright reaches (Thornton, Larrimore) or simply poster children for an excessive sell-job by the organization (Watkins, Smith, Hunter). Of course, Ansah could be in that same overrated category, but it does not feel that way to me.
