No deal with Rams, Atogwe now a free agent

O.J. Atogwe - DB - St. Louis Rams

The Rams neglected to upgrade O.J. Atogwe's tender offer to $6.976 million, allowing him to reach unrestricted free agency.

The Rams' hands were tied all along, as they clearly didn't want to approach $7 million for a player coming off reconstructive shoulder surgery. All signs point to St. Louis remaining in the hunt, but they'll now have to bid against other teams. The Cowboys, Dolphins, Jaguars, Lions, and Vikings have been mentioned as possible destinations

That's a pretty serious surgery for a football player. YIKES!

if this is truly our Superbowl year..lets get him....i feel we are a player or two away..we may have them on the team already

but you never know

I think the Lions will snap him up.

If Wade thinks we need Atogwe then so be it, but I can't really say I understand the idea that he's the missing piece.

I'm not scared to see Mike Hamlin, Ball or AOA play.

A move like that can't be about 1 year. Everyone wants a SB but Jerry has to look at the long term not just the short term. Atogwe is coming off a pretty serious surgery so before any long term deal is done I'm sure teams will want to know allot more about his condition and recovery.

That picture cracks me up...he has that surprised look like he just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

Not when you have A) the talent to win this year, but for a few glaring needs..like
B) Safety
C) Uncapped year

You beat me to it.

Rams FO: Clean out your locker, Atogwe. We don't want you any more.

Atogwe: Say whaaaat? :laugh2:

Even though I think Hamlin can play, I'd still sign Atogwe...Give him a one year deal

In a long term deal it is not just about this upcapped year and to think every year afterwards will be uncapped is not likely. Hell Jerry is taking time to see what will happen before getting Austin deal done I'm very sure he will want to know Atogwe medical condition for the short and long term before paying out big money which Atogwe is asking for.

If he was looking for a 1 year deal he would still be a member of the Rams.

What leads you to believe he wants a one year deal?

Because Jerry is the Lizard King, he can do anything.

Its a tough year to be a FA IMO with the uncertainty of next year. I don't think the owners of teams like the Lions or the Rams will spend money on a S. I would think only a team that thought it was very close would work a deal for him. He is only going to get a one or 2 year deal coming off that surgery anyway.

I think , if we want him, we will have a good shot at him.

Sorry, you cannot sign this guy to the type of deal it will take to get him while you leave Sensebaugh and Austin, two guys who produced for you last year, out there on meager tender offers. That could seriously have a negative ripple effect through the lockeroom. If he will come on a 1 year deal or at a reduced price in order to play for a winner, then maybe. If he wants $6-$7 million a year for 5 or 6 years, there is no way he will be a Cowboy.

Nice to see you've already determined what he's going to get on the market.

What imaginary team is going to sign him to this imaginary contract, by the way?

I don't think he wants a one year deal, but that's likely all he'll get coming off shoulder reconstruction. Maybe a 2 year deal, as long as the 2nd year isn't guaranteed money.

Another good point, you can't bring Atogwe in on a 4-5 year deal, or even pay him a lot for one year while you've got Austin deal-less.

Sensabaugh won't demand a high priced contract at all, and Austin will get his deal.

Jerry just saved a bunch of money with releasing Flo, Hamlin, and even Proctor. Crayton may be the next one to go and we'd save around another 2 million. Atogwe is a real possibility.
