I'm certainly not a draftnick, but I do have some pretty good ties to the Auburn program and thought I would at least throw out a few guys to keep an eye on. There are a few guys coming through this year and next, particularly along the d-line to keep an eye on. I'll apologize in advance for the length of this.
Offense:
Both starting wrs will likely declare this year and go in the top 2 rounds. Unless the sky falls and Dez isn't back, there should be very little interest. Duke Williams has average speed and outstanding hands. Coates will be a combine sensation. Simply ridiculous measurable. Even his bench is well over #300. Does not have good natural hands. Quan Bray could be the wr to keep an eye on. Likely UFA but he is a good punt returner and would make a serviceable slot wr. He could have value if we lose Harris.
Should have 2 interior linemen drafted. Little interest here.
Cameron Artis Payne is not a good fit for our ZBS imo. He's a good back, just not a fit here.
Marshall needs to be talked into a move to FS. May be a tough sell, but he's got the athletic ability to play somewhere.
C.J. Uzomah at TE is a shorter version of Escobar. Outstanding hands, blah speed and below blah blocking.
Defense:
At DT Auburn has 4 guys coming out. Gabe Wright is the best athlete. He's a natural 3 with the ability to be a very good pro. He's got a laid back, easy-going personality. He needs to develop a mean streak. May never happen, but he has the ability to play at a very high level. Likely 2-3 round prospect.
Angelo Blackson is big and pretty athletic. He could be a great 1. He plays hard, but plays way too high. Shows flashes of being dominant for stretches, but despite very good coaching just cant seem to keep his pads down consistently. I'd love to see him drafted by the Boys in the 4-5 range.
Bradley and Whitaker will both be late round to UFA. Both could make a pro roster, but neither will ever develop into a star imo.
Not much at DE or LB this year unless one of the LBs come out early.
Mincy at cb is similar to Davis last year. Pretty good cover corner, good tackler, average speed. Probably a better zone corner. Popped twice at AU for the wacky t'backy. May be off the Dallas board. Late round prospect, but solid football player.
My super sleeper is Trovon Reed. He was highly recruited and spent 4 very unproductive years at WR. Moved to CB this season and has been very good. He's still raw, and could be available at the bottom of the draft, but the athletic ability is there and his upside is pretty high. My only big knock would be that he's never going to be a good tackler. Outstanding kid.
Whitehead at FS will be a late round pick. He's very solid, but rarely made splash plays in his career. He's currently suspended for getting into it with a coach. Should be back this week. Probably not starting material, but will likely be a solid backup in the pros.
Therezie is a great athlete, im just not sure he has a position. He's played cb, s, even rb at Auburn before finally settling in at the "star" position. That's the hybrid S/LB in a 4-2-5 defense that Holloman played at SC.
He's got very good speed and brings a big time punch. Has a knack for making splash plays. He has legit pro bowl ability, I'm just not sure at what position. Does not have the size to play LB, the hips to play CB or the discipline to play FS. I guess that leaves SS. Definitely has swag, probably a tad too much.
2016:
Auburn will have a very solid group of seniors next season, but imo, the 3 guys to keep an eye on will be juniors leaving early.
QB Jeremy Johnson. Im a homer, but I'll say right now that he is my top choice for Dallas at QB and he isn't even starting yet. For those who don't know the name, you will. He's 6'6, has a very good (not elite) arm, good mobility, outstanding poise and outstanding accuracy and touch. If I've got a knock on the kid, its that he's pretty soft spoken. I'm hoping to see that change once he's the man in the huddle. I'll be shocked if he isn't a top 10 pick as a junior. He's very very good.
DT Montravius Adams. He's just a big time talent at DT. Another likely 1st rounder as a junior. He'll be a 3.
DE Carl Lawson. Another big time athlete. He's out with an acl tear. He could stick around for his sr year but I doubt it. He has great burst, and benches and squats around 500#. Still needs to get healthy and develop, but his skill set is off the charts, and topped only by his work ethic and character. I'm pretty tight with one of the coaches, and he absolutely will not shut up about this kid.
Misc:
I'm not sure how many know this, but Jeff Fisher's son was a walk-on safety at Auburn, and Les Snead the GM for the Rams is an Auburn alum. They obviously will get great info on Auburn prospects.
