Here's Mardy Gilyard on with Galloway and Company of 103.3 ESPN Radio talking about the possibility of becoming a Cowboy...

Mardy Gilyard on GAC

I have to admit I was not happy with his 40 time of 4.56, but he's a very dynamic punt returner and could be a nice addition to the offense as a bubble screen guy and a slot WR.

With his slow 40 time he may just fall all the way to the third round. If he's there in the early 3rd I would not mind the Cowboys moving up in that round to go after him.

Why? He's a quitter.

He's high risk alright. But it's hard to draft first round talent in the third round. If he stays in the third.

I think drafting him would go against everything we have done in previous drafts.

We go after the high IQ guys who love football and have athletic ability.

He just doesn't fit what we are trying to do.

did Mardy refer to himself in the 3rd person when asked if his return abilities seperates him from other wrs?

IMO, the 40time is insignificant when it comes to actual NFL play.

Patrick Crayton has never been touted as a fast WR, but he plays fast enough.

I'd be more impressed with a guy that does well in the pass catching drills and shows speed there along w/ the ability to hangon to the ball.

I also hate to bring up MEshawn, but he wasn't a particular fast guy, but did have the ability to get away from his cover man and get open. What's the point of having a guy that can run a 4.35 if he gets stuffed at the line or can't shake his man in shorter patterns.

I kind of agree. I would also say that it's a little more judge of a guy who plays the WR, RB and DB spots. These guys need speed.

I would hate to see Gilyard break out on a punt return and then he gets caught from behind at the 10 yard line.

He does seem to have enough jets to take it to the house if he gets a crease though...

I'd rather spend the third on M Williams out of Syracuse.

I read the reason he quit was because of school.

"Schools's always been my problem".

Something like that.

40 yd times are the most overrated things in football, the key word is translation when it comes to guys running fast 40 yders at the combine some guys like Chris Johnson, who ran a 4.24 translated well to the NFL, so well infact he's in a rare club of backs who posted 2,000 yds in a season.

Taylor Mays, tied Johnson, at one point with a 4.24, and then he ran a 4.34 and I seen Mays, play college ball the guy is a freaky athlete, can deliver the big hit but he can be to me a liability in coverage LaRon Landry, also comes to mind who also ran a 4.3, at the combine and he too is a coverage liability look at what Witten, did against him when he torched him for a 69yder, in the shutout win in Washington, last season.

I'm not picking on Taylor, or LaRon but DCF, you should know being that you post alot of insightful information about football, that 40yders are just that 40yders alot of great players didn't post blazing 40 yd times at the combine.

Right. He quit because school was too hard for him. If a player can't even do well enough to get through school, even though they are given tutors and are given generous grades (I'm just assuming on this last one, but I could be wrong, I know OU does though), he still couldn't do well enough to stay off probation I don't want players like that on our team.

That shows a serious work ethic problem. I doubt someone like that would put in the time to learn the playbook and study film?

:hammer: That is why I don't get guys like Mel Kiper Jr., and Todd McShay yeah they do get paid to analyze college players but at the end of the day no one knows who is going to do what in the NFL, I don't gush over any player taken in these drafts until they play in the NFL, and show they actually can translate it.

He learned enough of the playbook at Cuse to score a TD in I think every game this season. On a completely anemic offense, that's pretty impressive.

And since he's not going to have to step in and be a star at WR, we can take a chance here. We've got three or four guys that can play, if we can get a big time playmaker, we should go for it. If he's a headache, oh well. It's not as if we need to build a whole team and a third rounder is going to make or break next season.

I agree. I was kind of thinking he might be steal but anyone who gives up that easily is pretty weak IMO. No doubt he had the special treatment at every turn so how he couldn't get the job done is ridiculous.

I wasn't opposed to taking him until I heard him say that.

Just quit your team because you don't like to show up to class. Sorry pal, find a job elsewhere.

i'd be all over Williams in round 3.
The guys 22, i'm willing to give him a chance to grow up and mature.
As far as talent goes, he's got more of it than anybody in this draft class save for Dez Bryant.
Whoever takes him and helps him grow up will be getting a top notch wr.

Would Taylor Mays be able to run down Mardy Gilyard on a long punt return?

We know the forty times are not everything, but they do have value.

Gilyard is an athlete...made some great catches with his hands at Cincy.

But it was Cincy.

A 3rd rounder is too important to waste on a knucklehead imo.
