Here's Tim MacMahon from the Dallas Morning News Blog talking Cowboys on Mass Appeal Sports Talk Radio...

MacMahon on Mass Appeal

When I first heard this interview I thought his comments about getting to know the the players was very intriguing. I emailed Tim about it and he wanted to make sure the fans knew the following...
Just to be clear, I don’t root against anybody. I was just trying to make the point that it’s not that hard to turn the fan switch off when you’re around teams on a frequent basis as part of the evil media.
I get where MacMahon is coming from here. There have been plenty of times where we have seen players acting like a jerk and sometimes we forget that they are just people like me and you.

Do you like everyone that you come in contact with on a daily basis? Of course not.

Now onto his thoughts on Wade Phillips and some other stuff .

Aren't most of still in shock that Wade is still here? It's still shocking when you look back on how bad last season ended that Jerry didn't fire Wade the very next day. I think the biggest reason Jerry didn't make the move was because he didn't feel Jason Garrett was ready to take over the job just yet.

This Ellis vs Spencer situation is going to be the most watched battle all summer besides the one going on over at #2 WR spot.

I think the Cowboys have already decided that Miles Austin has to be the #2 WR, and let Crayton settle in as the #3WR/Slot guy, because of his 'long speed' which can stretch the field for Romo.

With Terrell Owens gone I am expecting Jason Garrett to take a deep breath, then come out in 2009 and show us all that he's the offensive genius we thought he was back in 2007. Or at least I hope he does, lol.

I would have been shocked if Wade had been let go. Had he been, I would have expected Garrett to be a serious candidate to replace him. I don't know if I"m in the minority or not, but I don't think last season had much to do with the HC job Wade did.

I thought Wade was safe until that last game and a half. When they basically didn't even show up at Philadelphia with so much at stake, I figured Jerry would blow his top and do it. I was shocked he didn't.

Well, let me take back what I said earlier. I wouldn't have been shocked to see Jerry overreact, either. But I would have thought it was an emotional reaction. I like Wade, but I'm not sold on him. I think there were at least two coaches out there who qualified as legitimate upgrades, but going to one of them would have meant changing things philosophically when we're already pretty close. I think the conservative move was to stick with the status quo and address the needs of depth, dissension, and special teams for one more season.

I can understand and agree that the outside linebacker position opposite Ware should be the most watched battle. To a lesser extent, the same could be said of number two wide receiver. However, the single topic which will dominate conversations small and wide, locally and nationally, fan or media, will be you know what. And that's a shame because it really isn't.

If you think about it, Jerry did do something. He let Wade bring in some "Wade guys"--Brookings and Olshansky. He had him take over the defense for the year. And he let him draft the character type of players for special teams and otherwise. Finally, he got rid of the "characters" on the team--T.O., Tank and Pacman. This is much more a blue collar team-oriented team, than the star studded, talent-oriented team of the last two years. My take is that with his job on the line, and probably his last chance at a Super Bowl, JJ let Wade "buy the groceries" as well as "cook the meal". Or maybe more accurately, he let Wade/Jason do that since Garrett looks like he is totally responsible for the offense.
