A story broke yesterday about Pat Watkins being involved in a slight 'skirmish' in a Dallas Area strip club. He wasn't arrested during the incident so that's the good news. The bad news is that the story is now out there and it seems Watkins doesn't want to talk about it.
Here's Watkins on The Ben and Skin show yesterday...
Watkins on Ben and Skin
Is he in the long term plans for the Cowboys? If I was making the decisions he wouldn't be and it has nothing to do with this 'skirmish'. I just haven't seen anything special from Watkins. For a while he was known as a good special teams player, but can you remember him making one good play as a special teamer last season?
He's not a starting Free Safety or Strong Safety either in my opinion. And those positions are basically the same these days in the NFL. Watkins doesn't make enough plays against the run or against the pass.
About the incident. The way Watkins is saying that he 'isn't supposed to talk about it' says something to me. Just speculating, but it sounds like a legal adviser has told him not to talk about the incident. Maybe the people he was involved with in the skirmish are going to be looking to sue him in the future. We did hear in the initial report that someone had to be taken to the hospital.
Just another knock, no matter that it's very minor, on the Cowboys and the discipline problems surrounding this team nowadays.
