Alright, I have a 42" plasma TV that doesn't have a remote (no universal remote works, and cannot change the contrast on it, too cheap to buy a $60 OEM remote) and a 23" LED laptop monitor (without speakers) and my PS3.

What I am wondering is, if i play my ps3 on my 23" monitor and then connect a digital audio cable from my plasma tv to my monitor, will the sound play from the plasma or not?

Why would you run the digital audio cable from the plasma to the monitor? I guess it depends on what you are trying to accomplish..i.e. video from the LED monitor with audio from the plasma TV.

If you can, post a picture of the cable you are using.

Regarding the remote, what brand of plasma do you have?

my initial answer is no, but it's confusing b/c I don't know exactly what your set up is.

You can buy an HDMI splitter (not 3-1 switcher, but 1in -2out) and connect the PS3 to both the TV and monitor. Then you can hear the sound on the TV and get video on both (but obviously only look at the monitor to play).

something like this

http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Splitter...RMXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311272099&sr=8-1

but, for that price, it might be good to check out ebay or something for a cheap refurbed harmony remote. Those remotes have a bajillion tvs and systems you can program on it. Check out their website to see if your tv is already pre-programmed.

or just buy some cheap speakers...

If your PS3 has both components and HDMI, you can HDMI to your monitor and component to your TV. Or if you PS3 has composite audio out, you can just use those white/yellow/red cables and connect to your TV too. For this, you'll need to specify where the audio and video will be coming from (video from HDMI and audio from Composite/components)

Wow. No universal remote works? I just gave away a 1993 TV that worked fine with my DirecTV universal remote. Is something blocking the IR receiver on the TV?

I don't think that would work. The sound you're trying to hear is from the PS3, right? Assuming your TV has a digital audio input, why not connect the audio cable from the PS3 to the TV?

I've probably tried about 10 different ones including the Logitech Harmony one! Most bring up the menu and can power on and off the TV but I cant move up or down on the menu or even enter anything.

Wow, duh. This makes a lot of sense. Can't believe I didn't think of this. I will have to try this when I get home! Thanks!

On a side note, I actually just bought a remote on ebay, actually found one for $20. Previously, there were none on ebay and would have had to buy one from some website.
