Bomar on GAC
----------------------

Talks briefly at the end about being a Cowboys fan growing up and speaking with Wade Wilson at the combine.

He thinks he may be going in the third round. I think that's about right and it's too high of a spot for the Cowboys to go after him.

I'm thankful that it's too high. I saw this kid play at OU and while he was good he was never all that and a bag of chips. Plus the fact that he got kicked out of OU cause he's stupid, and broke rules, will make me immediately question his judgement ability.

He's not a QB I'd like to see here but that's just my own personal bias.

He kept is nose clean as far as I heard at Sam Houston State ( I am an alumni and did not here any rumblings)

Maybe he learned from his time there between being suspended and getting injured part way threw a season but then again we lost 3 qb's that year. Yea the oline was pretty bad

If he's there in the 5th round I would take a chance on him.

me too, thats where i wanted him or like in one of my mock drafts, thats why i made a few trades to get an extra 4th to get bomar, or someone like him as a QB

I never saw how he eventually developed at Sam Houston but he sucked @ OU.

He wasn't even good.

OU fans loved him because he could get up from a big hit but that doesn't translate into being a good NFL QB.

He makes some dumb decisions on and off the field as well.

Anyone remember him spiking the ball in the holiday bowl vs Oregon after he took a knee?

Dude was dumb but I can't really comment on him post OU because I never saw him play.

Not that I'm a big fan, but he was a freshman and thought he was invincible.

Not too mention that particular OU team was probably the worst OU team under Bob Stoops tenure... They Had AD and not a whole lot more..

If the price was right, he might be a pretty servicable backup in this league.

Have you seen him post Oklahoma though or even did a scout you might respect say he developed well?

Im not challenging you or anything im just curious.

I never saw him play @ Sam Houston and from what I saw of him at Oklahoma he looked like a mobile guy with a big arm that is a Grade A idiot.

He could also take a hit.

I know he got caught at a Oklahoma City Hornets game drinking a beer like nobody wouldn't notice.

He did some dumb things on the field that have nothing to do with football.

And of course he almost put his team on the death penalty and probably would have if he would have told everything he knows.

You just can't have stupid guys at that position and I think he is a complete meat head.

Bomar sucked at OU! Albeit brief career.....the receiver they put in at QB was better......The #1 recruit in the nation and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Never saw him at Sam Houston..but how hard could it be playing against Blinn, and Navarro JC??? His Oline probably averaged 250lbs.

He's a 6th or 7th IMO.

At Sam Houston State, his lines averaged 295 pounds and they played D1-AA teams with D1 teams mixed in (not the Blinn's, etc.). Rhett was a focused team-leader for his entire stint after leaving OU. Character should not be a consideration after 2-3 years of zero problems. Plus he never had trouble with long-term character issues (drugs, guns, etc.)

The problem in my opinion is he's not on overwhelmingly accurate passer. His judgment on the field is suspect as he'd often try to force passes when the ball should simply be thrown away. He's not the best Sam Houston has seen. Yet, Bomar was a very good QB and definitely a hard-nosed leader on the field. He loves to take on a linebacker when he tucks it to run (but that attitude better change in the NFL because that's a recipe to injury). His attitude and focus on winning and focus on supporting his entire team are excellent. He never seemed to act like he was "above" his teammates when he came to Sam Houston. His arm strength was excellent.

So character is no longer the consideration (It was a question a few years ago). True NFL ability is the question. I don't think he's accurate enough to be a 3rd round pick, but he's got a lot of intangibles that give him upside potential to the team who picks him up in the 4th or 5th.

I know it never played out @ OU but he kinda reminded me of Chris Rix.

Hes mobile, can throw a bomb, but he just always makes you scratch your head.

And like Rix he can't hit the broadside of a barn.

Catch17: He's not that inaccuate. He does have NFL potential. He's a good QB with decent accuracy... But he'll never remind you of Aikman or even Romo for that matter. I didn't mention his mobility and you are right... he can create opportunities when flushed out of the pocket.

Would Jake Plummer be a good comparison?

I like Bomar because he's one of the few QBs in this draft with a legitimate big-time arm. And he's a good athlete, too, not an immobile slug.

Yes, he needs a lot of refining. His motion needs to be tightened up, and that will take a lot of coaching and work on his part. And he'll obviously face a huge jump in competition after being a Bearkat. But you can't deny that he has the physical ability to be a legitimate NFL QB, and you can't say that about most of the mid-round QBs in this draft.

IMO Catch is a little too hard on him. He was just a young kid at OU. It's natural to be wild and stupid when you're a freshman in college. :)

And he's not like Plummer IMO. I always thought of Plummer as a rollout guy who did best when he made safe intermediate passes and ran for first downs. In other words, his legs are what made him. Bomar is more a guy who can drop back and make every throw down the field from the pocket, even though he does run well.

I don't know what he developed into but I think im pretty accurate on my description of him based on his time @ OU.

He was a Red Shirt Freshman @ OU BTW too I believe so its not like the guy should have just been as erratic as he was.

I've only seen him when he was QB at OU. He pretty much stunk, but that was as a frosh. I remember Dennis Dixon was terrible, but after a couple of years he was Heisman ready before he got injured.

No clue about his progression had he stayed at OU, but if he had progressed than he certainly wouldn't be around in the 5th. I wouldn't mind it if we took a real hard look into the kid to see if there is something there.
