Would you trade up for a player like Texas' Earl Thomas?

Is this the season the Cowboys make a big moving up into the top half of the draft to take a guy like Safety Earl Thomas?

Earl Thomas on Sirius NFL Radio

Keeping quiet on which teams he met with at the combine. Sounds like Parcells and that Miami crew got to this kid, lol.

He's definitely a playmaker and he's very versatile so I am sure he would play a big part in the Cowboys 2010 defense.

The big question is how high do you have to go up to get him? Top 10, top 15, top 20?

The Cowboys have a bunch of players coming into the mix from last season's draft whom we really haven't even seen yet. Jason Williams, Mike Hamlin, Robert Brewster, Brandon Williams and Stephen Hodge will all be fighting for roster spots this season. So if you add another 6 draft picks that's a ton of new players and not a lot of room to actually contribute since most of the starting jobs are all locked down.

I would love to see the Cowboys make a big move and go get Thomas.

I'd like to see us make a move to go up and get someone we like as well, I'd love Earl but it doesn't even have to be Earl as long as it's a player the staff likes that much.

I think we stocked up enough last year, time to go after the game changers.

Sorry, don't see it happening. Would be nice though.

At the same time you never who will fall in the draft. I've seen Brady Quinn drop (so glad we didn't get him) Aaron Rodgers, Mike Jenkins, and D. Jackson.
These guys were rated high in alot of mock drafts.

The fact that we drafted 10 guys last year and 4 of them are essentially draft picks this year makes me think we're going for the big names.

I'm praying the Pats give Spears a contract and we just negotiate for one of their 3 2nd rounders. I think it's pretty realistic since they do need some DE's.

You could trade a 1st, 2nd and 4th for Earl Thomas which I know seems like alot but you plug Earl in at FS for the next 10 years. Never worry about that position again for a very long time.

Or move back in the draft and have 3 2nd rounders(1 from the Spears signing) and 2 3rd rounders. The 2-3 round range is loaded with talent.

He can play corner also.

Now if there is a guy who can play that 'Star' position that was talked about last season it's Earl Thomas.

I should probably change that

The Pats signing Spears. Giving us one of their 2nd rounder. Even though he has a first round tender, Jerry might negotiate for a 2nd. Which I would run to the bank with.

And if the Cowboys wanted to slowly work Thomas into the mix, they could play him in the base at FS, but they could move him to CB in 4 or 5 WR sets and move Ball to FS (assuming Hamlin is released of course).

Watching NFLN Total Access. Mayock raving about Earl Thomas instincts. Has ET rated higher on his board than Eric Berry. Everybody who is dreaming about him falling to 27 can forget it. Ain't happening. He'll go top 15.

Which would be a blessing in disguise.

Quick! Name the last Texas defender to be worth a damn in the NFL!
