Witten/Irvin Show talk about Crayton issue
By dcfanatic, October 22, 2009 4:43 pm
Here's Jason Witten's weekly appearance on The Fan...
Jason Witten Show
Do you think Jason Garrett would have a meeting with Witten if he was going to give Marty B the starting TE job? Yes.
Would Witten deserve that? Yes.
Is Witten a Superstar while Crayton is just a guy? Yes.
Does that change the dynamic of telling a player face to face that he's being demoted? Hmmmm.
That's the question where you get a 50/50 split.
Here's the Michael Irvin Show talking about the issue and how they think it should have been handled...
Irvin Show talks Crayton issue
Let me just make a point here and then I am prepared to move on from this issue.
Coming into training camp there two main position battles going on that everyone was watching. Who will be the #2 WR and who will be the #2 CB.
When training camp was ending we saw Patrick Crayton hold off Austin and Hurd for the #2 WR spot.
We also saw Jenkins and Scandrick play to a tie. And we heard about them being told that each would be starting on a week to week rotational basis.
So they got a 'meeting' to let them know about the situation.
Then we saw Orlando Scandrick play like crap against the Giants when he had his opportunity in Week Two. When Week three rolled around we knew it was Jenkins turn to start against the Panthers.
What happened in Week Four against the Broncos?
Mike Jenkins was told he was back up again that week...

That was from September 30th. The decision was made and the staff told him on the Tuesday after the Panthers game.
So you already had a very similar situation to the one that is going on with Crayton and yet instead of just taking the straight and narrow path in relaying information the staff let the ball roll around on the field for about a week and then figured that Crayton had already figured it out so there was no need to go to him and explain things.
And the guys on the Irvin Show made the best point yet. Do it during the Bye Week so its out of the way for this week.
The Dallas Cowboys as an organization...
Inconsistent. Undisciplined. All too familiar.
