Solar Eclipse 2017: When & Where?

If you live in the Lower 48 States, you'll see either a total eclipse or a partial solar eclipse when the moon blocks the sun, starting at 9:06 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on Monday, Aug. 21. It will start in Madras, Ore. and end at 4:06 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time in Columbia, S.C.

(Note: You can safely view the total eclipse without special equipment for the few minutes that the sun is completely blocked. It is NOT safe to watch a partial eclipse without special equipment.)
The total solar eclipse will last about one minute to three minutes, depending on where you live. The partial eclipse will last longer. Consult the NASA eclipse guide below, which was posted on Space.com, to see when the total eclipse will pass by your neck of the woods.

The total eclipse will cover about a 70-mile wide path. However, the partial eclipse will be visible from all Lower 48 states.

A lot of cities and towns are holding special events with music, performers, food and drinks to celebrate the eclipse. Hotels and airlines are hosting special events, too. Can you imagine seeing the total eclipse from a plane?

What are you doing that day? Have you thought about hosting a block party with your neighbors? In many parts of the country, schools will still be on summer break. So, it's the perfect timing for a daytime celebration!

Eclipse day!! I have my "eclipse ready" glasses ready to rock. It is suppose to start here in Boise in about 1.5 hours. I was going to try to head north a bit to get into the Path of Totality but the traffic projections sound very uninivitng. So, I think we are just going to stay at home. Boise still gets something like 99.8% of the sun blocked out, so, close enough. Good news too is it is nothing but clear beautiful skies here!

Here is an awesome site you can go to, plug-in your home city, and it will give you coverage examples and even a nice little animation.

Sound short term wisdom,,, truth be told best to sit out the intensity of flying lead first couple months

I couldn't get my DSLR to bring the eclipse into focus, so I had to just take a picture with my phone through the telescope's eye piece. :(

This was taken with a Celestron C8 8" SCT telescope using a white light solar filter. The camera was my Google Pixel.
