Anybody have the number after the RFA tenders? It looks like Adam hasn't updated the thread in the Daily Zone in a while.

I'm also curious about the Romo restructure I've heard about. I assume they'll just push some of his salary into a signing bonus to free up cap space but I haven't heard the exact numbers.

Thanks.

Has the Cowboy's brain-trust actually said that they were looking to restructure Romo's contract? I know a couple people on this board have suggested that but I haven't heard anything out of VR concerning that.

They can play that card whenever they want. This year, next year, year after.... Whenever they need extra cap room, they can just restructure that and free up 4+M.

So my guess would be that if they have a player they want, they'll go ahead and sign him and the re-do Tony's deal. If they don't want to spend any money, they can just leave it alone.

It's always an option.

They know it's there if we need the room. There is no reason to do it unless the cap gets tight.

Of course it's an option.

I just haven't heard anyone from VR talk about it. I was wondering if I had perhaps missed Jerreh mentioning it...

Here are Tony's base salaries:

2007 - $6 million (the Cowboys added $4.5 million to his $1.5 million base this year)
2008 - $6.5 million (fully guaranteed)
2009 - $7 million ($6 million guaranteed)
2010 - $8.5 million
2011 - $9 million
2012 - $9 million
2013 - $11.5 million

So at any point, they could just convert one of those base salaries to a signing bonus and then pay him the league minimum.

So let's say they give him a signing bonus of $5.67M and then pay him the league minimum of $830,000 next year. He still get's his $6.5M and the Cowboys free up $4.725M for this year's cap.

Stephen brought it up as an option while talking to Norm on the Ticket.

Since Romo's contract is only for 6 years, there will be plenty of opportunities to restructure it whenever the need arises. Jerry restructured Aikman's contract (signed sometime in 93) at least 3 times before Aikman's career ended in 2000. I would expect Jerry will add on more monies to Romo's contract when it's warranted -- win another SB -- or if salaries for QBs skyrocket and also when he restructures it to use to adding needed players to the team.

Something missed in Romo's base salary figures. I thought $30M of his money is guaranteed by your figures only show around $17M.

They didn't include his initial signing bonus.

I'll take a stab at it:

We'll assume that Adam's latest update of $15.88M as of 1/23 is correct (because it always is).

Zach Thomas will count $2M against that right now. His 3rd million is tied up in bonuses so it won't count immediately. (I think)

Barber and Canty both got the $2.017M tenders.

That puts us at $9.846M.

Am I missing any other RFA's or smaller signings since 1/23?

OK that doesn't include Hamlin's franchis number of 4.396M.

Now we're at $5.45M.

What about Ladoucer? Was he tendered?

4.5 for Hamlin at this point, unless they get a deal done reducing that number. Someone beat me too it. And yes you've got to figure in the Long snappers number. So we're probably at 5m or less at this point.

I would think that only the $1m signing bonus counts for Zach. His base salary nor the incentives are guaranteed.

OK Just found that JP and Bowen each got a $400K tender which takes us to $4.65M.

well i have this question big dave, or maybe Adam can clear the light on it, on NFL Network today, they said an additional 7 million was added to the salary cap, so was that figure added in with adams figure, or do we get to add the additional 7 million onto what Adam said previously at 15.88 million.

then, you guys forgot to figure in the draft cap, which should be about 5 million with our 2 first round draft choices, etc.

That would hardly leave anything then if thats the case, so to me it seems that the 7 million is added onto, or the cowboys will restructure romos deal, but that still doesnt leave alot. to go out and get some free agent players.

Adam was figuring the cap at $116 mil for the '08 season.

He figured about $2.3 mil for signing our rookies. The low figure is due to the rule of 51 coming into affect.

Yes. Adam's figure included that extra $7M.
