Well here we are, working on our third straight .500 season.
If we have all this talent , why are we so average ?
If we have all these great coaches, why are we .500 ?

I don't know how you feel, but I would rather really stink or be really good than play .500 ball.

That's just good enough to keep you out of the blue chip range in the draft,

but not good enough to be in the playoffs.

It's footbal purgatory.

Guess I should not be too concerned, once Romo is gone, we will go 5 and 11 again just like after Troy
was released.

It's a shame we are wasting Romo's prime years.

I've often wondered how many teams are .500 the last 16 years or so? Are we one of the few or are there several? I know being average keeps you drafting average or at least to a point since we do waste picks. I still believe that Jerry is going to get to a point, and the fans already are sick of it, to where he HAS to hire a big name coach because being average will eventually get in his pocket book, or at least I hope it does........

Romos, Wares and Wittens best years are gone...wasted in mediocrity.

Jerry needs to remember his first year in the NFL....1 Win vs Washington.

By the way im not so sure we havent already wasted Romo's prime years. Its not like at his age with this teams coaching and constrained cap situation that his best years are yet to come.

Its all a shame really. Its so hard to find a true franchise qb.

Consider the following:

• The Cowboys this season have earned their 4-4 record, having spent four of the season's first eight weeks at the break-even mark. They were 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and now are 4-4. Three times they've had the opportunity to climb two games over .500, and three times they've reverted to form, losing 17-16 at Kansas City in Week 2, by 11 at San Diego in Week 4 and by a point to the Lions, on the strength of that remarkable Matthew Stafford-Calvin Johnson-led comeback.

• Dallas in 2012 finished 8-8, and in third place in the NFC East, six times sporting a .500 record: At 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 5-5, 6-6, and finally 8-8, thanks to a two-game season-ending losing streak that cost it a playoff berth.

• The Cowboys in 2011 finished 8-8 and in third place in the NFC East, five times reaching the break-even mark: At 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and 8-8. Stop us if you've heard this one before, but a season-ending two-game losing streak cost Dallas a playoff berth.

• And most remarkable of all? Behold their historic balance: With Sunday's loss, the Cowboys from the start of the 1997 on -- a span of 16 1/2 seasons since the franchise's latest Super Bowl glory era closed -- are a too-beautiful-for-words 132-132 in the regular season, with every win matched perfectly with a loss. It's like being sentenced to life in the middle of the pack, with no chance of parole.

Average teams do not go toe to toe against two of the best teams in the entire NFL. Average teams are not in every game they play, especially against elite teams.

I don't buy the whole "you are what your record says you are", we very easily could be 6-2 right now looking at a 1st/2nd seed in the NFC. Three of our losses combined we've lost by only a total of 5 points, 5 measly points separates this team from 7-1.

I understand we're 4-4, but if you look at our losses it makes me at least feel more optimistic then past years. All of our losses have come from Denver, Chiefs, Lions, and the Chargers, all of which are very good teams. Denver/Chiefs are two of the best teams in the NFL, while Chargers/Lions have two QBs who are playing arguably just as good as anyone not named Peyton Manning.

Now if we lose this upcoming Sunday to the Vikings, then by all means you can start calling this an "Average team".

There is nothing above average about this "team" yet. Average teams can beat anyone and lose to anyone, that is the definition of average. Win one, lose one, win one, lose one, rinse and repeat. If this team was better than average, then mix in a winning streak.

Injuries are catching up again and it looks like average is going to be waiting for us at the finish line.

Good teams find a way to win the close games against good teams. The Cowboys find a way to lose.

I think we are more of a Jekyll and Hyde team than we are a .500 team.

Going into this year what position was a weakness that did not get addressed in the off season?

Yep. IMO, .500 is no-man's land. I told someone offline today that I would rather see Dallas be 3-13 WITH A SOLID PLAN rather than around.500 with basically no chance to do damage in the playoffs.

If you're around .500, aren't your "plans" more "solid" than they'd be if you were 3-13?

With the defense as bad as it's been it's amazing we have a 4-4 record right now. Should honestly be about 2-6.
