Sometimes controllers clear pilots to land, Then have them go around last minute. If they don't go around, who do we blame? I don't know what was going on with that truck.

reading more information there was not only rain but fog and mist
good chance that the men in the truck did not see anything in time

What's being reported was 4 miles of visibility was the least all day. But there was something I did not notice at first.

After the controller gives the truck the clearance, it's not the truck he immediately tells to stop. He tells another plane, 4195 to stop right there. Then he goes back to truck 1 and keeps telling him to stop. It wasn't immediately clear. I'm thinking the driver might have thought he was still talking to 4195.

Yeah, it wasn’t clear at all. I think the controller panicked.

I think you're right. If you listen to the audio, the controller gives a panicked plea to the truck to stop that is barely understandable. I know it was at night and bad weather, but you might want to take a look at what you're driving into when crossing a runway. It doesn't appear the firetruck did that. But why is there 1 controller doing all of that? Way back in the 80s what Reagan did seemed to have no major impact. But we're still feeling its effect to this day. Firing all of those ATCs and hiring a bunch of new ones all at the same time caused a problem. They all retired at around the same time causing a shortage.

They’re way under funded and understaffed. It’s been that way for nearly a decade now.

its this kind of infrastructure that never gets enough funding because its not obvious and it does not get the politicians enough publicity. And its been going on for a log longer then a decade.
 
Been in Japan for a few hours. ANA is BY FAR my new favourite airline! They gave us a FEAST twice on the flight. The snack halfway was a nice touch with a nice roll. The staff were incredibly friendly. The lemonade on the plane was a few touch. Why can't US airlines be like that?

And yes, so far, Japan is, in fact, awesome.

I think we all know why air traffic controllers are understaffed at airports nowadays.
 
It seems like no matter what the occupation, and no matter how important, those holding the purse strings want to employ a skeleton crew for the least amount of money no matter what.

One exception. A few decades back one of our governors here in NJ promised to fix motor vehicles. I actually forget who it was. But it got done. Every line was open. A visit took maybe 15 minutes instead of 2 hours. The second they were out of office, the new governor put it back to the way it was. I just renewed my license, a little over 2 hours of waiting for my number to be called, then waiting in a long line.

There is absolutely no reason for there to be short staffing for ATCs. They're a federal agency, right? What an embarrassment.

~400 probationary air traffic controllers (those hired within the past year) were given the axe when the Tesla Dork came to "help," which dramatically restiricted rotations and replacement of air traffic controllers that were retiring or no longer performing.

They weren’t ATC’s and they wouldn’t have helped rotations and replacements. They were all in support roles who don’t work in the towers. The FAA were already short a few thousand ATC’s before that even happened. This has been a problem long before 2025.

Did they ever recover from the mass retiring that took place maybe 2 decades ago? They had to know it was coming.
