I won't comment on potential players, but I can definitely see CB, LBer and DT positions in play for our 1st-round pick.

***(CB) Bland needs a near Pro-Bowl-type season to return ( 2027 salary is a team option by the 5th day of the league year)
***(Lber) Overshown will either return with a new contract or walk as a free agent
*** (DT) Don't see them passing up a chance to add a top young DT in the 1st round to pair with QW. Especially since Clark may not return.

It's sooo darn early to talk about 2027 but the guessing and speculation is fun

20. Dallas Cowboys (via Green Bay): LB Chris Cole, Georgia

"Overshown and Winters are also scheduled to hit free agency next spring," Holder said. "The upcoming linebacker class isn't nearly as strong as last year's, with several prospects at the position stepping into bigger roles this season. Georgia's Chris Cole falls into that category, with only one start during his first two collegiate seasons.

"This may be a projection, but Cole's combination of size (6'3", 235 lbs) and athleticism give the Bulldog the best chance at being a first-round pick among current collegiate linebackers."

Yuck.

I don't have much of an opinion on Cole but taking a LB in the first would be a whiff.

I think it depends on whether we are drafting a starter or depth. LVE was pretty good......but I agree, it's hard to say what the talent level will be by the end of the college season.

Barring trading multiple picks or signing an aged vet in free agency, they have to draft an OT in the 1st. There is 0 chance starting both Guyton and Steele in 2027.

I hate to say it, but this is off a bit

* Guyton is improving, and 2027 will be his 4th year. Unless he totally regresses or has a career-ending injury, there is a good chance he will continue to start. Now they probably won't exercise his 5th-year option or offer him a long-term deal, but I don't see Jerry cutting him until his rookie deal expires.
* Steele ...........see his contract below. $9M guaranteed salary.......he will return

I think it's possible they draft an OT high but I agree - it's far from a given that they're going to move on from either OT, let alone both.

Have to put tackle on that list.

Of course, anything can happen but where things stand today..........I don't see them using a 1st-round pick on OT for the reasons listed above. Just for the record, I agree both OT positions need upgrading but what we think and what Jerry thinks are two entirely different things. It would mean cutting or trading Steele, with $9M guaranteed salary. But it's way early.......so we will see.

I'd prefer to go OT in the first, send Steele to the pine.

In this draft, I am likely taking one of the CBs or DL on the board over the LB.

I think Steele is a goner after this season. Guyton still has a chance to become a long-term starter, but Steele won't get much better.
