Before anyone calls me CRAZY, at least think this over. Imo Brad Johnson is a guy who could finish a game for us if Romo were injured, maybe even start a game or two. But,....if he had to start for any kind of extended period, WERE DONE! So heres the plan in a nutshell,........We send a fifth to Tampa bay, Tampa then sends Chris Simms to Arizona which in turn sends Kurt Warner to us. What does this all accomplish? Gets Simms out of tampa, gets Warner out of Leinerts way down in Arizona, and finally gives us the type of reliable backup that any REAL Superbowl contending team needs. Oh sure, Warner is only gonna play a couple more seasons, but SO WHAT. Buys us time to draft and develope someone else and gives us an excellent backup with RECENT high end production. Warner was still able to deliver the goods as recently as last season. As an added bonus we also happen to run a version of the offense he put up most of his production in while with the Rams. The comfort level Warner would bring easily outweighs the price of a fifth round pick IMO. Now,.....get er done Jerry!

Hmmmmm. I have another idea! It's the middle of the regular season and the dastardly New York Football Giants damage our Tony Romo. Brad Johnson is clearly not up to the longer term task....what to do? We turn to Brett Favre! He has been unable to make a deal to play football and now we need a starter. We call the "avenging hayseed" (sorry, couldn't resist) from Mississippi and he gladly steps into the breach. Championship! ;)

Leinert has been named the starter in Arizona. NO WAY they are going to any super bowl this year, even they know that. Warner is 37 years old, not by any stretch a long term fix to their QB problems, in fact he may even be hampering Leinerts developement. Simms would give Arizona a young QB with some experience and would also be somewhat of a hedge against Leinert failing. IMO this trade benifits all parties involved, therefor making it realistic, ALOT more realistic than Brett Favre coming to Dallas anyway....;) BTW....Warner put up 27 touchdowns last season with an 89.0 QB rating, also VERY familiar with our offense considering both Garrett and Martz learned from Norv.

There just are no real good options out there. It is an area that needs addressed next season. For the first time in a while I would not have an issue with Dallas drafting QB fairly early given the lack of need positions on this team if everything stays the same and we get our key playes locked up.

I also believe this is the type of move a true Superbowl contending team makes. maybe not this EXACT MOVE "although I feel its a good one", but one like it. Its the type of thing you do when your close. Bernie Kosar ring a bell?? I mean picture this UGLY THOUGHT..........NFC championship game, Romo goes down mid 1st qtr. I ask you, ......who would make you feel more at ease, Warner or Johnson???....LOL I KNOW who im picking every time and Twice on SUNDAY!.....:D Any better ideas/options out there??..........NOPE.

Hey, I'm still available! If all we want is a backup QB, I can fill in when needed.

I'll pass on the old QBs and would rather see us develop a young guy. I had hoped it would be Matt Moore but he got away and will likely replace Delhomme in Carolina before too long. Bartel seems to have some skills but I don't think he has enough of them to be the guy.

If someone like Simms is released then I wouldn't mind signing him but I wouldn't trade for anyone right now. Romo is very resilient and avoids huge hits pretty well so I'm not overly concerned with his staying healthy. Johnson is old and has a weak arm but he is also quite wily and can get the job done in a pinch, for a short time.

Let's see who is released as the regular season approaches before trading for a backup QB. The Bucs aren't going to carry all of those QBs and Simms is the most likely to be let go.

Jason Cambell wouldnt be a terrible back up

:)
................................No he wouldnt. Coarce the odds of that happening are a billion to one....LOL Seems you guys think this is an unrealistic trade scenario and I have no clue WHY. Were not talking the Warner of 1999 here, were talking the 2008 version. I mean, he's not even the starter in Arizona, Leinert was officially named starter already to avoid any QB controversy. Zona spent a number one on the kid, they HAVE TO see what they have in him. Simms would be a good backup/ possible starter if Leinert fails for zona. Gives Leinert some level of comfort that a former nfl MVP isnt breathing down his neck. Just dont see whats soooooooooo unrealistic about it IMO.

.........................................Thing is though, picking up a guy like Warner gives us the opportunity to do just that,...to draft and develope a young QB next season. As I see it Warner has 2 maybe three years left in him , AS A BACKUP. He gives us stability behind Romo yet affords us the time to bring along a young guy to take his place a couple seasons down the road. Covers us on BOTH ENDS,....the here and now if anything happens to Romo, and gives us time to develope youth THE RIGHT WAY. Pretty experienced in our offense too.

My issue with Warner is that he still thinks he is starting material and wants to be paid like it, which we can't afford. Also, he has been terribly inconsistent the last several years and I wouldn't want to count on him for more than a game or two and at his price that just isn't worth it.

To his credit, he played OK last year but was still inconsistent, especially down the stretch and that was with some of the best WRs in the game to throw to. In his defense, they really didn't have much of a running game and their O-Line was not good. I just don't see him as a viable option and would rather go with a younger, less expensive guy. Besides, I don't want to see his succubus of a wife in the stands at Texas Stadium.

And BTW........Jerry was within a whisker of Bringing Warner to Dallas once already but instead went another route. I know for a fact that there is at least one member of this board who can confirm this.

Just for the record,.....its NOT like im all shook up about our backup QB position. Think Brad would do fine for a game, maybe two. Romo also seems to be quite durable so were probably fine there. BUT,......ya just never know. All I know is we havent been THIS CLOSE in 4 ever, in this type of situation you do all you can do to cover your bases because as we all know, chances like this dont come around all that often.

Hershel Walkers 1st year in Dallas. Cowboys 6-2 at the break, Danny White was tearing up the league, dual threat of Walker/Dorsett, destroyed Parcells Giants for all to see on MNF. An aging but still competent defense to go along with the high powered offense. Many talking heads had us representing the NFC in the Superbowl at the midway point of the season. And then.........................Karl Banks puts Danny white out.....FOR GOOD. Backup Steve Pelluer comes in and we finish an exactly opposite 2-6. Season OVER. Dreams crushed. Granted, ...this is a much better/deeper team than that one, MUCH. But still, ya never know...........

trades involving multiple teams. when was the last time we saw one?

and given we only have 2 qb's on the roster, how we gonna draft/develop one in just a couple of years? and if we're gonna develop, why not keep simms or just find a young guy? like we've been doing on the practice squad.

it's like our WR situation...everyone wants us to develop our own but when it's time for them to play, we have our OH NO!!! segment who comes out and wants someone elses if for no other fact except that they were here last year so new = improved.

just wonder why the extra need for the multiple teams.

......Only reason I kicked the three team trade around in my head is I believe the best trades are ones who benefit all parties involved. I think this type trade does just that. Plus, its really not all that complicated. Other reason it would have to be a three team trade is because Simms would have to go to Arizona to Take Warners place as backup. I dont want Simms as a Cowboy. Not to have to come in and win any critical games anyway. MUCH more at ease with Warner having to play instead of Simms. In fact, its not even close.

I am probably not the other person you meant who can confirm this, but I can. The only reason he wasn't is because Parcells decided he wanted a guy he was familiar with (Bledsoe) and Jerry agreed to it.

I've always liked Warner.

I like Warner also but how old is he? We'd be trading one old washed up vet for another.

When was the last time the NFL had a three-team trade like this?

I don't recall many, but I could be wrong.

Outside of that, I have no interest in Warner at this point in his career.
