Backup Running Back

There are always a bunch of RB's that don't make the cut to 53 around the league. Draft one in the 5th or later and sign one of those late cuts and the Cowboys will be fine. Much bigger concerns than backup RB.
 
There are a gaggle of pretty good RB's in this draft. From round 3 on, we should be able to find a good one to develop. We
need to get starters with our 1st two picks in this draft.

He is small (5'9" may be generous) and he essentially only played for one year as he was a ST player in 2015 and 2016.

I still think we need options there.
Switzer started to look better at times, but I am still not sold on him yet.

Smith is the reason why Morris and Dmac are no longer on this roster, so I don't understand your immediate angst, or you don't understand the value of having versatility in your backfield.

This niche, complement idea for us makes no sense. We have an all around back that we spent the 4th pick in the draft on. He should see 90% of the snaps. Running and PASSING.

I think Smith could be a solid fill in for a game or two. If we draft a guy he should be drafted as an upgrade to Smith. Ie an all around guy.

These complimentary, gadget guys are, IMO, just offensive coordinators trying to look "creative" or the lead dog they have is deficient in some area. Zeke can do it all.

Samuels. He can run the ball, he catches everything, can split out, played TE and HBack. This guy could fit into our offense and actually contribute rather then just sit around holding his helmet and practicing on the scout team.

Not sure exactly where this team stands on addressing RB2/3 leading up to this draft, but considering that its an obvious area of weakness, it will be addressed.

This draft will provide excellent values at RB, its actually a pretty deep class, especially where we need to shop, rounds 3-5.

Curious if we will address that need with a draft pick, or let other teams draft them, and then shop for a vet cut that can feel that role.

I believe that Dallas is content with Smith as the primary backup based on what he showed last season. At most, I expect Dallas to try to provide some competition and fill the third spot with a later-round pick, probably from the fifth round on. I certainly don't see it happening in the third round.

Meh. Sounds like more of a FB than a RB. Think we could do better. Unless we take a 7th round flyer on him.
 
Don't be surprised if Dallas chooses to draft a speedy change-of-pace back to complement Zeke's physical running. What Trey Williams has to contribute in that respect remains to be seen but in the meantime, they might well decide to back up what they have in house with another pick. Smith could give Elliott some needed breathers if necessary.

An effective change of pace, speedy back could work wonders to maximize our running game, though. If we happen to get a good one to offer power and speed as well, so much the better. Like Parcells used to say, they don't grow on trees. We'd be extremely fortunate to find one like that at a mid range or later stage of the draft, however, which is about where we'll likely be trying to find one this year.

Love Hynes! Hes lightning, I think if he come in to spell Zeke it will be no easier for the defense aa they will have to respect and fear his home run ability cause if u blink hes gone! Im seure he can put on 10lbs of muscle, the height is no issue, emmitt and barry were 5'9"

Larry Rose III (NMSU) is a good all-around back (runner & pass catcher).

He's not huge, but not small either. 5'11 195lbs.

He will likely be a UDFA.

They are going to draft one for sure. I wonder if they will draft an all around back capable of being the lead or if they will look for the change up back/3rd down back?

I imagine it depends on the round they decide to pull the trigger. Hopefully the Jones/mendenhall debate taught them something.
