This is the second game this season where poor active roster management contributed to defeat. Im not talking about star players here - I mean the regular rotation of JAGs on or off the active roster to fill particular short term needs arising coupled with weekly inactive decisions.
We went into yesterdays game with a gameplan that put a lot of pressure on the LBs. Primarily going with nickel and dime to minimise the pass thus leaving only 6 in the box. The idea being to force GB to run (with an inexperienced RB - which they did with success). However, we're currently short handed at LB and had Jaylon and Hitchens (neither fully fit) taking the pressure. No solid pros to rotate in or replace either when things started to go wrong.
At Denver we had a gameplan which put pressure on the secondary to shut down the QB. But the active personnel were young and/or injury risks with no JAG replacements to rotate in when things go wrong.
We seem to be poor in roster management. While sometimes injuries cant be predicted in the cases above at least some of the injury issues were known weeks in advance. We dont seem to look 3-4 weeks into the future as to what personnel packages will be under pressure and plan accordingly.
