It wasn't just that he was fast on that one play. He was decisive when he went after Deshaun and took him down. No hesitation. Just turn and go, then boom!

That sound you heard around the world was a collective "OOOOHHHHH!!!!"

the kid is just now learning to be a football player. Zimmer has already helped him hone his skills so the speed isnt just speed, but functional football speed. I credit Al Harris as well. In College his 1 glaring bugaboo was that he wouldn't wrap up and finish. I didn't see that yesterday. I saw a guy that had bad intentions when he got there and knew how to drop his man. I think he learned this in the offseason. I bet he watched alot of film of his own game and the coaches were in his ear. I love the guys desire to get better. Maybe this will rub off on Mazi Smith.

Ronnie, maybe so. But this is what I found out there on the interwebs.

DeMarvion Overshown runs official 4.56 40-yard dash at 2023 combine. He seems very fast to the eye, to me. But you may be correct.
When I saw him zip past Parsons I knew he was movin. I should also add that if you have a look at 10 and 20 yard splits from combine runs you will find that covering 15 yards in that amount of time is haulin *** in full pads. Again factoring in that it was from a flat footed start.

While your math is correct you're missing the fact that going from a standing start in full pads is going to be a lot slower than firing out of starting blocks in shorts and a t-shirt. What's important to note is that all the other players on the field could NOT cover that same ground in that amount of time.
This. Watch the play carefully. Overshown has coverage responsibility 1st.

Watson rolls right trailing the receiver and mirroring Watson but pressure & his coverage is good.

So he sees his receiver turn his head and lose contact with Watson's eyes: the area has become congested with WR/DB population and the sideline boundary.

Then he instinctively commits to Watson, believing his speed to the QB can beat the next window of opportunity for his cover to appear available to the QB.

And he was right.

That's a play you cannot teach folks. That is elite ability.

He closed so fast that Watson didn’t even have to think about making a move let alone make one. That play was off the charts.

Why does that math seem off? If you figure that speed through a 40 yard dash, it comes out in the 7's.

I'm not great with math, but I think the analytics department is incorrect. How is a closing speed different from a dash? He was essentially at a stop when Watkins moved laterally.

I can be way off on this. but five yards a second in a forty is 8 seconds.
He runs a lot further than 14 yards. 14 yards was the max distance between him and the QB. He starts from near the left hash, runs at an angle to catch Watson outside the #s. He ran something like 25-30 yards rather than 14.

Get him his "0" jersey. The Cowboys may have found something extraordinary.

I like that better. That makes more sense. This was a terrible week to stop my raging heroin addiction.
