Baltimore Ravens - Let's Make A Deal...

I don't trade anyone until training camp is over. An injury or two and suddenly we're in the same position as the Ravens - looking for depth or starters.

:hammer:

and I can't believe me and theogt agree on something

and I thought ABQCowboy was a stand-up guy

I'm learning alot today

I would say probably a 4th. Take advantage of their desperate situation and package McQ with another mid round pick and maybe you could pry them loose of the Mark Clayton who is coming off a bad year and is fighting for a starting spot against Demetrius Williams, who the Ravens really like, so he's a buy low candidate.

Clayton played for OU, I have to think the Cowboys would be high on him. Lacewell probably has him ranked as the 3rd or 4th WR in the NFL.

If they need a starter, there's a very small pool of candidates out there. A 4 is not out of the question when you have to pay a premium and if you think the player might actually fill a hole long-term. The only other options will be stop-gap players who've played the position previously and have been relegated to backups. See: Jason Fabini.

I *wouldn't* make the trade for a WR, though. A minimum upgrade at the WR position when we've got a lot of untested depth is not worth going thin at tackle. We've been really lucky to be as healthy as we've been along the line the last two years, and there's no point tempting it in a season where we can contend just because we don't trust the people who run our draft and coach our young skill players.

FWIW, I recall that Clayton was a huge Cowboy fan coming out of OU.

I don't think you can afford to give up your best depth at T. It is just too important of a position.

Have we so quickly forgotten Rob Pettiti?

With L. Davis and Kosier able to cover the tackle posiiton, the team is not likely to repeat the Pettiti scenerio. (thankfully, because you are right, that was a very dark time)

Don't most teams carry four tackles? Flo, Marc, Free, and McQ. Marten is a guard now. So I think that a Joe Berger or Procter are more likely to be cut than McQ.

Now if it came down to trading him vs. gifting him to Parcells? Absolutely, trade him for a 7th. Same for anyone else we're going to cut.

But I still think he's going to replace Colombo.

Better be careful in something like this.

You have to make sure you dont give away the wrong guy.

Columbo is in a contract year, Free is a left tackle and marten looks to be a guard.

Better be careful moving mcquistan. Unless they dont think he can play and they are planning on resigning columbo.

Trade Columbo to them for Clayton and a late pick.

We'd start McQ ourselves at RT.
It seems that is the plan for next year anyways.

Bigg can play RT obviously if need be though he is so good inside I'd hate to move him.

The more I type it the less I think I'd do anything.

Yes we prolly lose Columbo for nothing next year but this is a Super Bowl run....

I really like that JT.

My first inclination was Columbo for a 2nd, but I like your idea better.

I would do the Clayton trade. He had a bad year last season, but put up some decent numbers in '06: 900+ yards and 5 TDs.

So about 200 more yards but 2 or 3 less Touchdowns than Crayton had here last year.

Yeah that would be a HUGE upgrade to the reciever position.

Just forget about trading our OL depth for WR depth from a team with nothing at WR worth having.

There is no freaking way I trade a starter on this Oline to anybody except Kosier.

The idea of letting Columbo go and putting the untested McQ in is crazy talk.

Get your head examined. Columbo wants to stay and we got him for a song. Jerry will pay him if it is at all possible and I think it will be.

I would pay Columbo over Canty if it came down to it.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Marten cut. They'll probably give him another year, but I haven't heard a good thing about him yet.

I will be interested to see what happens on the OL this year. Dallas went deep there last year because of the depth, but I wonder if they will have the same luxury this season without losing some other quality players...

Dallas is deep at tackle though. Adams, Colombo, McQuistan, Free, and even Lekkerkerker is someone who Houck seems to like.

At guard, they have Kosier and Bigg, and both of those guys have played tackle before.

Additionally, Houck has always been a big fan of playing his best lineman. Unlike some coaches who don't like to move players around, Houck just wants his best players. That means that if a guy like Procter or Berger shows himself worthy of more time, he'll probably get it.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas did shop some guys around.

I wouldn't give up any tackle who will make our final 53. This is not the time of year to get greedy for some team's draft picks. We have a team that could win it all this year...you don't gamble that everyone will stay healthy just to get some extra picks...that would be crazy.

I like our team...I say only be in the market to pick up guys who can help us or to unload guys during the preseason who won't make our 53...other than that, you don't get cute before the season even starts and then watch injuries knock you out of contention because you traded your backups.

With Colombo's knees and Flozell's age, McQ could very well be one of our starting OT's in the next year or two.

What WR would you go for?
I would try and get clayton out of it. As some know I'm a big marcus smith fan too so maybe him.

Me neither. I just doubt they'd cut a 3rd rounder after only two camps.
