Well the real benefit of staying there was being able to drive into Washington (as you can imagine, my appeals to go to Baltimore were rejected.) I guess we were in a more suburban area, so it didn't come across too badly (Manassas that is.) I really want to go again and see some of the Civil War sights in Virginia.tomson75;2714002 said:Ugh...Manassas is a dump. When I was growing up we used to call it Manass......hole.
Baltimore isn't much better. Camden Yards is an awesome venue to catch a baseball game, as long as there is a decent team playing opposite the Orioles, but outside that and the aquarium, I'd never set foot in city limits.
It's unfortunate that you've only visited that part of Virginia. The are some wonderful places in our state.
...then again, I just spent all day driving around NoVa traffic yesterday....and I wasn't real pleased. Meh...we have our bright spots.
Maybe I have too much free time on my hands these days, but I'm really doing a lot of reading these days (currently reading Homicide by David Simon, which of course is about Baltimore.) But I'd love to find more books about urban history in the U.S. I'm curious to know how about places like Baltimore and Detroit and how they have ended up the way they are. The problem in Canada, is that we only have 3-4 cities that are worth thinking about, and sadly, the historical aspect just isn't that exciting.
