Barber An "Every-Down Back...

Cowboys beat writer Todd Archer expects Marion Barber to be an "every-down back" despite the team's addition of Felix Jones.

Archer doesn't think Barber will get 300 carries, but 300 touches is doable because he'll catch a lot of balls. Jones is expected to get 10-12 touches per game as a change of pace. Barber will get every goal-line carry imaginable.

Agreed. Jones is too big of a weapon to not utilize on every possible opportunity.

Sounds so sweet. MB3 is already one of my favorite Cowboys. I am amazed every time I watch one of his highlight videos even though I saw every one of those games.

As far as Felix, I can't wait to see him in real game action. Wouldn't it be something if he turns out to be the best running back in the '08 draft?

That possibility exists. There were some who said he was as good as McFadden, so anything is possible.

I hope to see a lot of promise out of Felix this year. F. Jones will probably get a good bit of carries in the preseason. Let's just hope he stays healthy during training camp and throughout the preseason.

I dont think so... I think Barber's deal goes against conventional thinking... he was paid for production(tough yards/TD's).... that doesnt mean he has to get a larger dose of carries.

No more than 15 carries a game.... 10-12 is more like it.

True to some degree. Just ask Reggie Bush! He said it himself that you need more than speed at the NFL level because everybody is fast.

Well, when teams got film on him, Bush did nothing but lead the league in fumbles with 8!

I think you are right. The way he was used last year is the best way to use him I think. He will be the starter, I believe, but give way early to Felix Jones and Tashard Choice until the later periods when the games are on the line. That is when he will earn his money.

If the think Barber will get 300 touches this year, they must plan on letting him sleep on the sidelines.

He was noticably worn out by the third quarter in the Giants game, and began taking the sidelines to avoid the hit.

I think they'll get what they deserve in Barber- a good lesson in when not to listen to the media.

I think he'll be good for a while, but as the toll of carrying the ball for every down sets in, he will do exactly what they thought he would do if given the ball too much before Wade arrived- diminishing returns.

Wow, now that is quite the opinion. I hope you are right.

I agree that the 20 TDs is a possibility, but more likely 15 or so. But the 1700-yards is a little bit overboard in my opinion. I'll give him 1200 yards off of 250 carries this year because we drafted Felix Jones.
