Fair enough. Maybe I should have said "between the guards" or "built like a between the tackles runner" or "short yardage back". My point is that Julius is a big play potential guy, not a pile mover or short yardage specialist.
Barber is always trying to bounce, and his vision is often pretty good. But he has the power to go straight ahead that Jones doesn't.
After the this season and last, IMHO, Jones is a light/speed back. he isn't an everydown back. Too often does he go straight down or backwards on contact where (again this is my opinion) there is 2 or 3 yards still there that could be squeezed out. It's a quibble about our team's offense, but it is an area that I think can be upgraded. I also don't think Barber is an every down back, but he's a heck of a shared timer. To me for a running back the extra yard each run is more important than the big play runs. First downs probability is IMHO AGAIN so much more important for a RB, particularly on this team where we can pass so well. This is why I thought Emmitt Smith is the best RB ever. He was a first down machine. He usually always got 4 yards consistently (for his first 12,500 yards or so, hehe). The 1 yard, 2 yard, 8 yard, -2 yards, 1 yard, 7 yard backs can be entertaining but often result in many stalled drives. Mainly a style preference, not a knock on the talent or abilities.
