Does anyone have access to how many negative or 1 yard plays by barber this season? I honestly believe that we were a much better team once he went out last week. We made the mistake of trying to keep going to him today. There was a play where he bounced out side and gained 1 yard because he didn't have the speed to get passed a d-linemen. I strongly believe he has become a major liability to this team.

Crazy thing about Barber is that he what he is known for "short yardage", became the teams liability. So if he can't convert in short yardage, what good is he?

The name of the game is speed. You need it and he doesn't have it. Felix should be the cog on this team getting 20 carries and being spelled by his back up and 3rd down back. Just like the old days with emmitt and dorsett. Felix is a rare talent.

That's my question with Barber moving forward. I love the guy, and for a short stretch he was perhaps the league's most exciting running back given his unique, punishing style.

But as it is currently, when was the last time we saw him use one of his patented punches to a defender's face? Or barrel over a tackler? Or anything like it?

As you said, even if he's not providing that unique electricity, his supposed strengths would remain short-yardage and goal-line situations. But he hasn't been particularly good in either scenario this season. It's not wise to live off of 2007 when it's 2010 and you're talking about running backs, who notoriously see their careers die quickly.

Again, I love what Barber has brought us over the years, but he was a progress stopper today. Other than blitz protection, which I didn't observe whether he was doing today, he provided nada.

What to do...

I don't think that you can judge Barber by what happened today, the line play was just so sloppy.I do think that Barber needs to be evaluated by the staff in the off-season and they need to really take a look at what they see on game film.

Rainman, Barber is done.

He needs to be a between the tackles runner due to his lack of speed and burst. The only problem is that he doesn't have the vision to do it. His only successful runs between the tackles is the draw play and that is not entirely on the OL. He just is not a good interior runner.

I say we show Barber the door.

Choice actually has the best vision on the team. He should be the complimentary back and has a nose for the end zone. He could do most of the short-yardage and goalline work for us to keep Felix fresh.

I would float Barber as trade bait. If no one bites I would release him just so Garrett couldn't put him on the field.

But I think today was a bit of a microcosm -- albeit on a much worse level -- of what Barber has become. Ever since that first Giants game, when, yes, he looked like a beast, he just hasn't looked very effective. What's his ypc over the past seven weeks, I wonder?

I think best case scenario for Barber, we bring him back as a backup who gets 6-10 carries. Perhaps by reducing his role, he'll regain some of his ferocity in short-yardage and goal-line situations, and can provide a viable backup option.

Yeah, I think I'm buying what you're selling.

What I see is an emotional player who routinely is brought down by the first tackler, something that used to rarely happen and made his lack of speed or quickness neglible.

Granted he basically wasn't healthy all year, but as we all know, this is a what have you done for me lately league. His carries were feast or famine. Little to no yardage or 6-9 yards if a big hole. Unfortunately, even with the big holes, once contact occurred, it more often than not was the end of the run.

As was mentioned, what had been his strength, short yardage, became a liability. I believe that was as much about his injuries as about a different mindset acquired when he was declared "the starter/lead back."

I agree, but my reaction was it was a p-poor play call with him in the lineup. He is the slowest of the three RBs, and they try to get him around the end? That one is on Garrett.

Did he even break a tackle today? He looked like Troy Hambrick out there.

Felix is the future. Time to move on.

I've been saying it since about week 8, Barber is toast. He is done in this league. He is either used up or a gimmick back that everyone has figured out. He does nothing that a UDFA can't do. This was a classic case of cap mismanagement by JJ. All he had to do after 2007 was make Barber sign the first round tender and see how he did as the primary back since that is the level at which he is paid. He is absolute garbage in terms of production per dollar spent. He also needs to go so Garrett can't run him out there instead of Felix.

I love Barber, but found that since he got paid, he isnt as hungry. I dont know if it is the injuries, but we need to go in another direction at RB (Felix)
