After reading Drew Boylhart's chat, it seems everyone is looking for a complimentary back in the first couple rounds. I really feel that we need to get THE BEST BACK that is there regardless of style or substance. We fell into this trap in the mid 90's drafting complementary type players. Kevin Williams comes to mind. We were looking for 3rd receivers when we should have been trying to find potential #1's. We should take the best back rather than looking for the quick, fast, outside runner type back.

I really agree with this. As long as they fit our philosophy you are right. I mean how great would it have been to put Randy Moss and TO on the field at the same time? Two #1 wrs.

Or Emmitt and Tony D at the same time. (I know different eras)

Just get the Best Players.

I don't care who the Back is cause he probably won't be gettting much playing time. Just get Some DB's and a SS that can cover please.

That's really the catch 22. Sure we hope he won't be getting much playing time. What if MB3 gets hurt?

We need another complete RB, that can carry the load if need be. A compliment will only get you so far.

I think you mean Sherman Williams. Former 2nd round pick, if I remember correctly. Waste of a pick.

That's my fear this year. I definitely want another beast of a back, not a "compliment". Give me Johnson or Rice in the 2nd and we'll be in good shape.

I'm not sure Johnson qualifies as a beast but I'd like to have him on our team. If we didn't add a vet RB and drafted the likes of Johnson early I'd like to back him up with a Matt Forte, Tashard Choice, Kevin Smith type.

Kevin Williams was a WR who was picked to be a "compliment WR, not a #1 guy. I think that is what he meant. At least that's what I understood.

I've never really been on board with getting a scat back type, since Barber is a good three down back anyway. Queue me in for wanting Ray Rice or Kevin Smith, who could simply give Barber a series off here and there. Either one of those guys could fill in should Barber go down since they are both used to being the workhorse.

Well, if you follow Drew's advise, as I usually do, the best RB that will be available is Ray Rice. Drew, and I, think he's a top 10 talent.

Give me Chris Johnson. I think he will become a starting RB in the NFL and a pretty damn good one.

Understood. I'll make sure to keep posts in their proper context. Kevin Williams did OK for us. Sherman was a huge failure. My fear is that guys like Kevin Smith or Jamaal Charles will be in the same book as Sherman was.

Get the best back available. That was the philosophy when drafting Barber in the 4th.

I agree with the Sherman Williams pick too. He was picked to be a compliment or 3rd down back to Emmitt, but just really sucked.

Agreed, especially since everyone on the field knew he was going to run it and he still got monster yardage.
