Twitter: Barham had the third highest defensive PFF grade amongst rookies

He did look good but he also missed a couple tackles and misjudged an angle to the ball carrier a time or two. I'm not roasting the guy — I'm just saying I'm not expecting him to come in and be an all-pro. That said, he could absolutely be the real deal. We've been missing a dawg in the middle of the field for a long time.

Jacob Thomas (Vikings)
Darryl Peterson (Rams)

I think Rueben Baine is going to win DROY
Man, I wanted Bain and then Thieneman, vs Downs and Lawrence. Love Downs, but wanted that pass rusher in Bains, I think that position is more influential than S/nickel back. So still a safety and DE pair, but maybe get more out of Thieneman than Lawrence. Hope I’m wrong and our pass rusher ends up good with what we have.

I don't think Lawrence is going to have more than 3 sacks. And people are going to be mad here and call him a bust, but he is raw. Maybe there will be significant progress in year 2. At least I am hopeful there can be.

By end of next year the NFL Will have a new rule because of him. Just like the ones they created for other Cowboys.

Unnecessary roughness. Tackling angry while looking like a bad azz. 15 yards and automatic first down.

Many of the top drafted defensive rookies never played a single down of preseason football. The ones that did play were probably out there for no more than a few sets of downs.

Would Barham be 3rd ranked if Caleb Downs had participated?

Barham looked totally lost in the Saints game. He overran many plays and seemed to put himself in a position to allow Saints' offense to make huge plays. I don't buy the hype. Let's see what happens when the other team plays its first stringers before we annoint this defense. l am hopeful that we will be better on defense but it certainly is not a done deal. Defense against preseason opponents is onye thing. Let's see what happens when they line up against Stafford and company.

I have had me a man crush on this dude since draft night. Now I know how @America's Cowboy feels about Dak. Sorry man I didn’t understand.
Brother, I love me some Jaishawn Barham as well! I'm sure most of Cowboys Nation does. Barham is super legit and arguably a Top 15 overall player who somehow dropped to us all the way into the 3rd round. Haha...everybody else's loss! Even Barham said he absolutely hates every team for this except for us who finally drafted him. The guy is legit, has an attitude/anger but stays hungry and focused. We are so blessed to have him. Just like Dak who waited until the 4th round for us to draft him 10 years ago, Dak truly should have been a Top 15-20 player who should have gone in the 1st round. Better for us. Would love to see Jaishawn Barham (and Caleb Downs) spend time with Dak so Jaishawn and Caleb can better understand what opposing QBs are thinking so our D players can better counter them on the game field.

What I like about Barham is he shows good instincts. That won't change when he faces starters in the regular season. Of course he will make rookie mistakes and hopefully hone those instincts with experience but instincts are critical for a LB. We haven't seen that in a LB on the Cowboys since Sean Lee. Will he win DYOY? I doubt it. That will go to a flashier position like Edge or CB, but if he plays like he did in the pre-season he has a chance to make it interesting.
Agreed. Instincts and a nose for the ball are something a player has, or does not. It often is the difference in a league where every player is a physical freak of nature. We haven't had a linebacker with great, downhill instincts around here for a while. Probably LVE's rookie season.

Look at Kenneth Murray. Physical specimen, but couldn't make a play on a football field because he had no feel for the game.

Hmm... Both undrafted. That's gotta say something. Probably that the competition were not starters or possibly even Twos. Still gotta grade the players though, right?

I kind of doubt it. Barham will eventually ball and Caleb Down literally played 1series in preseason...

It's a little premature to crunch data on the rookies.

We might want to at least give them a 5-6 regular games to acclimate, then start the conversation, right?
That was my point.
