Did anyone else hear this?

This would be some good audio to listen to.

He basically says the Cover 2 is going extinct like the 4-6 and it is to easily manipulated by the routes and QB.

I'm on my phone but it would be great if someone could find that interview.

It just makes me wonder what we would do if we get to the playoffs and face guys like Brees and Rodgers..

Well.. I don't even need to wonder.

Also.. I don't think its a coincidence that every player is regressing.

I guess we can thank Jerry for listening to his old drinking buddy and keeping us behind the times.

i said it before, i'll say it again. as bad as jerry is at personnel decisions he is far worse at choosing coaches. look at his track record.

Either he sticks with his comfort zone or he makes a head scratching decision. There was some success with Parcells when Jerry decided to make a splash and hire a legend, but other than that?

Bears run it and are very successful

Exactly, no matter what you run players have to execute it there is no magic defense it takes player being where they need to be and making the play. I would also add this is not the pure Tampa 2 defense and Dallas does switch up not constantly in cover 2.

I think Jimmy Johnson was a pretty good hire. I guess that does fall in the "comfort zone" though.

And yeah, he has made some bad moves in that area.

Sean Payton is believed to be one of the best Head Coaches in the NFL by many. Jerry hired him. Say what you want about Parcells but the QB so many love, one of the best defensive players in the last decade and many other players were collected by Parcells. That's not a bad hire IMO.

How often were we in the Cover 2? I forgot which game someone analyzed, but they said we were in the Cover 2 for about 20%.

There are no pure defenses anymore. So many hybrid defenses teams use these days. I don't get all this talk of 3-4, 4-3, 4-6, etc. To the players: quit the excuses and just make a play. To the coaches: don't be so hard-headed and scheme to what's best based on the talent on hand.

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- In consecutive games against the Broncos and Chargers, the Dallas defense has struggled to contain the opponent’s passing attack.

Former NFL LB and current CBS analyst Bart Scott doesn’t blame the players, but instead believes Monte Kiffin’s Tampa 2 scheme is at fault.

The Audio is in the link

So this is what this article is about - how Pete Carroll came to be the strategist he is now and he how he has arguably created the most interesting and perfected scheme in the league today:

"Of all the great coaches I have worked with, none would have a more fundamental impact on the tactical side of my coaching than Monte Kiffin." - Pete Carroll, Learning to Coach

As reiterated by Danny here, Monte Kiffin remains to be the biggest influence on Carroll's development of his scheme. Kiffin, as I wrote on the last post, revolutionized defenses with his Tampa 2 scheme, which featured quickness over size and a bend-but-don't-break philosophy. More elements of Kiffin's own defensive philosophy could be seen below:

Some body hurry and tell Pete Carroll and the Seahawks that Bart Scott says their defensive scheme does not work. lol

Carroll does favor the 4-3 under but he does not run the Tampa 2.

Great interview by Scott. He knows what he is talking about. Said cover 2 is only good in spots. He was really spot on his analysis. This needs to be featured.

They run the Tampa 2 at times and Dallas does not run Tampa 2 all the time. Damn watch the games we are not sitting in cover 2 even the majority of the time. Fact is Kiffin does know what he is doing, the Bears also use this defense which Rod Marinelli and produced sacks and turnovers. No one is running a pure anything most are hybrid defense using forms of cover 2, cover 3 and man coverage’s including Dallas. I swear I think some of you do not watch the games or do not understand what you are watching.

Of course not. Why does this surprise you? How many posters are defensive coordinators? The media tells us we are running a Cover 2. Our defense sucks. Therefore, Cover 2 sucks. End of story.

at time we do and other times cover 3 and at time man coverage. I also know that we have ran this defense a total of 5 games.

Calm down chief. Pete did not run the Tampa 2 at all last season (which is a coverage shell by the way). Pete ran straight man and man-zone combos at corner with a single high safety (most of the time, with some cover 2 and cover 7). But more importantly his base front was a variant of a 4-3 OVER, not the under that Kiffin and Marinelli prefer.

Now, admittedly I have not watched many Seahawks' games this season (watched all of them last season when Kiffin said to look to the Seahawks for what he wants to implement) so Seahawks could be playing more Tampa 2 but I seriously doubt that the big physical Tampa corners are suited to playing back in zone. Their strength and advantage is physically re-routing WRs on the LOS.

So take your own advice and really watch the games, instead of reading articles, or worse, just parroting what you have "heard".

I do watch the game cheif and you don't have a fricken clue as to what you are talking about. I posted it because it is easier to believe those who are actually coaching than message board fans such as yourself. Blah blah blah you are clueless and just moaning about what you don't know.
