The bashing will come I'm sure, but I will always feel the guy got a shaft of pretty significant proportions here after that '99 season.

Jerry has changed significantly since then, and Gailey has learned to relinquish more control over playcalling if the need arises, which was such a major issue here last time. Troy Aikman is not around to complain anymore either.

If guys like Turner and Wade Phillips are potentially going to merit serious consideration, then Gailey, who was one Charger's 1st down against the Patriots away from getting the Dolphins HC job, deserves just as much consideration.

While I think a young guy would be the ideal and boldest way to go, ala Rivera, Jerry may not be able to wait the extra time that would take. I'm also not convinced that Jerry thinks a first-time head coach can handle the pressure of this job.

With all due respect, and in no way intending for this to be personal bashing, you are out of your mind.

Chan Gailey was a fairly good coach and definitely got the shaft- I think if Jerruh had that to do over he wouldn't have.

I understand. My point is, Jerry never questioned the guy's work ethic, nor his commitment to discipline or detail. The guy's tenure here was more or less "wrong place, wrong time", and he had some very bad fortune with injuries to key people.

Aikman for almost 6 full games in '98, Irvin for the season after Week 4 in '99, Moose for all of the '99 season, McKnight for the season in a scrimmage in the summer of '99 (which turned out to hurt much more once Irvin went down), Emmitt in '99 for almost 3 games as well.

It was a different time and different era, and Gailey was a first-time HC. He carved out a record that was more than respectable in spite of the beginnings of salary cap hell and the tough task of coming in to teach a brand new system to a group of somewhat pompous veterans. And it's no secret it was some of those very same veterans that cut his throat w/ the owner in the end.

Yes i love a guy who on 3rd and 8, throws the ball 4 yards and expects the player to gain the extra 3 by breaking tackles, run a draw play and try and trick the opposition. No thanks, the guys teams in dallas never could put teams away.

He would be a good stopgap, we could then fire him in a year and get someone else. Jerry will not move the Cowboys into a 1 billion dollar stadium with Chan Gailey at HC either.

The Cowboys don't do stop gaps. Well, they shouldn't at least.
