Batman star Christian arrested

BATMAN star Christian Bale has been arrested by detectives investigating claims that he assaulted his mother and sister, police sources said today.

Bale, 34, faces questioning over the claim — made by his own mother and sister.

But he was able to attend the first European screening of new Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight in London’s West End.

He is alleged to have lashed out on Sunday night at Park Lane’s Dorchester Hotel — where he has a suite.

Mum Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, who lives in Dorset, went to a police station in Hampshire yesterday to lodge the allegation. The matter was referred to the Met Police.

Detectives, well aware of last night’s glittering bash, took the decision not to approach Bale yesterday. But they are expected to make attempts to quiz the Wales-born actor today.

A source said: “It was a very difficult situation but it would have been wrong to have wrecked the premiere over a complaint which we don’t yet know is founded in truth.

“But Mr Bale will be contacted at the earliest opportunity and be asked to provide an account of anything that happened.”

A Met Police spokesman said: “We can confirm we have received allegation from another force in relation to an alleged incident in central London.”

The allegation is the latest drama to surround the film. In January Heath Ledger, who plays arch-villain The Joker, died from an accidental drugs overdose aged just 28.

And a special-effects technician was killed last September in a stunt car accident.

Clark right? what do you think of the batman threw the years?

Well I used to watch Batman growing up...

Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. I actually got Robin's autograph as a child when he visited Shreveport once...

I liked the show as a kid, but even then realized it was campy at best. It constantly ushered in villains and many were well known actors that did it for fun, such as Otto Preminger as Mr. Freeze...

I occasionally caught it TV as I got older but didn't see it again until Michael Keaton played the lead. I actually liked that one a lot and Batman II wasn't bad. After that it pretty much stunk...

I really like the new Batman movies and although I like Bale a lot as an actor, I would have chosen someone different. Bale is a phenomenal talent but I can never seem to get over Batman having that lisp. He does a great job, it's just a quirk for me...

The first two have been great and I'm hoping future sequels are treated with the same detail. I will be a bit disappointed if they go with Bane for the next villain. He is not part of the classic Batman in comics. I would prefer one the two remaining of the three top old school villains. They have done The Joker, now it would have to be Penguin or Riddler. Catwoman is also a possibility...

Just my .02...

I personally dont want to see any one touch the Joker as long as Nolan and Bale are doing this Batman series. No one will do what Heath did with this joker. Its a coin toss (no pun ment) for the next villian I can see it being Two face, penguin or Riddler.

I just read up on the KnightFall series and it would be awefully hard to do Bain as a villian as Robin hasn't been introduced and Bain comes around when Batman is older

Christian Bale arrested, released; denies assault
By RAPHAEL G. SATTER

LONDON (AP) -
The darkness around Batman has deepened: While audiences were shattering weekend box-office records in the U.S., Christian Bale was in London, where his mother and sister reportedly leveled assault allegations against the star of "The Dark Knight" that have yet to become clear.

Bale said the allegations were false Tuesday, hours after the Wales-born actor was arrested, questioned by London police and released on bail. The 34-year-old actor spent four hours talking with authorities but was not charged.

British media reported that Bale's mother and sister told police he assaulted them at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night, a day before attending the European premiere of "The Dark Knight." The Sun newspaper said the complaint was filed by sister Sharon Bale and mother Jenny Bale.

"Christian Bale attended a London police station today on a voluntary basis," read a statement from Bale's lawyer, Simon Smith, of the London-based firm Schillings. "Bale, who denies the allegation, cooperated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police."

A woman thought to be Bale's sister Sharon told reporters "it's a family matter" from her home in Corfe Mullen, 110 miles southwest of London. A man who answered the door at the home of Jenny Bale in nearby Bournemouth said she did not want to comment.

The reports surfaced just days after "The Dark Knight," which co-stars Heath Ledger as Batman's nemesis the Joker, took a record $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend. Ledger, who took the iconic villain to a deeply disturbed and diabolical place, died earlier this year of an accidental drug overdose in New York - a circumstance that has only added to the movie's brooding mystique.

Asked Tuesday whether Bale had been arrested, a London police spokesman did not refer to him by name but said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault."

The spokesman requested anonymity because he is not authorized to be identified under police policy. British police do not name suspects who have not been formally charged.

The force later said in a statement that the man had been released on bail pending further inquiries and told to return in September. It did not specify the date.

The Sun said police did not question the actor Monday because they did not want to interfere with the premiere of the movie. The next scheduled stops on the film's European premiere tour were Madrid, Spain, July 23; and Tokyo on July 28.

In the sequel to "Batman Begins," Bale reprises the role of wealthy playboy Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego Batman, a brooding vigilante superhero still scarred by the murder of his parents.

In his destructive battle of wits with the Joker, Batman pushes his own ethical boundaries, and ultimately is forced into the shadows. Winding up what may be the darkest - and most critically acclaimed - superhero movie ever, Bale's Batman truly becomes, as coined by Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred: "The Dark Knight."

Bale first made a splash as the child star of Steven Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun" in 1987 and as an adult has made his name with intense screen roles. His earlier films include "American Psycho" and "The Machinist."

Bale is the youngest of four children and is the stepson of Gloria Steinem. Her assistant said Tuesday that the author and feminist leader was at a writing retreat and unavailable for comment.

Bale's current project is playing John Connor in "Terminator Salvation," scheduled for filming this week in New Mexico. The film "will continue to shoot with Mr. Bale when he has completed his International tour for 'The Dark Knight,'" said Lee Anne Muldoon, unit publicist for the movie.

A records check turned up no criminal record for Bale in the Los Angeles area, where he's lived with his wife, Sibi Blazic, and their young daughter.

A source close to the actor said Bale was confident he had done nothing wrong, and blamed his mother for the drama.
"Christian was stressed, but he didn't lay a finger on anyone. Instead, he flew off the handle and cussed his mother. He just got very loud because his mother was saying some very outrageous things about him, his wife," the source said.
"Christian's attitude is that this was his mother's fault because she became very provocative in an argument they were having.
"Things got out of control and he says now he wishes he just left the room."
The source said his mother's hurtful comments came at a time when Bale's marriage to his former-model wife, Sandra 'Sibi' Blazic, was enduring difficulties.
"He has stresses in his marriage. He can have a terrible temper. Instead of lashing out at his wife, he sometimes lashes out at people around him."

The article also states that Bale has been pretty depressed after Ledger died and has been pretty emotional lately.

This story reeks of overreaction. You can get arrested for yelling at your relatives? Absurd.

Talked to someone high up in TDK production. They are in the UK promoting the film. A bunch of BS and the Brit media has blown it out of proportion.

A couple people who work with me met him a few weeks ago as they have been filming Terminator Salvation here for a few weeks now. Said he's a nice guy and all. Kirtland and our unit have had a MAJOR part in quite a bit of it. I think I'll go see it just to watch our helicopters and flight crews on the big screen.
