I dunno.
Hos' draft came up with a decent FS in the second round.
Your first rounder is big puzzle to me. I assume you think Spencer needs to be replaced, but there's been no inkling that the Cowboys have been dissatisfied with the play of Spencer.
Also keep in mind that Spencer's position is not the primary pass rush position of the defense. Whoever mans that spot has to be well versed against the run and be able to provide coverage.
But the bottom line is, I don't think Spencer is the problem with the pass rush.
Look at the DE's. They're getting no push on the pass rush. What's needed on this defense more-so than another Ware-clone is at least one of the 3-4 DE's who can provide some pass rush.
Again, look at the draft Hos just put up. I think he nailed it the kid he's suggesting the Cowboys take in the first round. He fits this defense to a "T".
Quinn? Not so much.
LOL. Not sure what you are trying to convince me of, changing my draft because you prefer another fan's or that 3-4 DEs are more important to the pass rush than a 3-4 OLB.
To the latter, Pasqualoni's philosophy certainly prefers not to rush 5 or more, but Wade rushed 5 quite a bit before he was termed. Spencer is an average to above average pass rusher. His production, or lack there of, proves it. Compare Spencer to Merriman's numbers under Wade. Or even Shaun Phillips (who plays Ware's position). Not even close. Not sure if you noticed, but Dallas' 3-4 DEs have never been prolific pass rushers. NEVER. And I doubt that Pasqualoni is the DC of the future in Big D anyway, especially if his pass rush hinges on a 300 lb DE to consistently pressure the QB.
Again, the comparison with Dez should be self explanatory. Cowboys came off a season last year with the coming out party of Miles Austin. Plus Jerry had no intention of letting Roy go. Crayton was a stellar third receiver with Ogletree up and coming. Yet, Jerry could not pass on a talent like Dez, rightly so. If the Cowboys can pick up another Ware, they would be beyond stupid not to.
Deunta Williams is a very good safety. He will be the first safety taken no doubt. But he will not be available for the Cowboys in round 2, my opinion. However, as good a player as Williams' is, he is not the premiere defender on the UNC defense. UNC's defense is anchored by its front 7. Marvin Austin, Sturdivant, Carter and Coples grade out higher than Williams. But out of all those guys, Robert Quinn is the most feared by opposing coaches/teams. Quinn is a freak, even among all these blue chip players at UNC.
Nick Fairley is a stud too, likely a top 5-8 pick. Watt is almost as productive, just as athletic, but has better value. But the point is likely moot anyway, if the Cowboys keep winning, Fairley will be out of their reach. Quinn is the better talent IMO, but he will only be available b/c of the off the field issues.
Whether you agree with me or not does not matter. I just hope the Cowboys continue picking up blue chippers who drop regardless of position. I would never settle for "decent" talent when I hire, instead gambling on the "best" especially if I can get them for great value. Always take the best talent available.
