I understand his decision, and given the money involved I can't blame AB for taking the job.
Having said that, it sucks to lose our first successful coach in twenty years to a school like Baylor. It would be one thing if it was an obvious step up, but it ain't. The only area where Baylor is clearly ahead of Houston is in the inherent financial advantage of being in a BCS conference, and the sole reason for that is that when the SWC broke up the Governor of Texas happened to be a Baylor grad.
It kinda makes you question whether having a football program is even worthwhile. If the Baylor job was enough to make an alum like Briles bolt, what chance do we have to
ever retain a coach? Why waste the time and money if we're doomed to perennial third-class status?
Also, the reports here indicate he will be taking most of the offensive staff with him as well. No one seems to know who if anyone will coach the team in the Texas Bowl. So much for winning our first bowl game since 1980...
Merry *bleeping* Christmas, indeed.
