BB King, the King of Blues, dies at 89

The "King of the Blues", guitarist and singer BB King, has died aged 89.

King, known for his hits My Lucille, Sweet Little Angel and Rock Me Baby, died in his sleep in Las Vegas.

Born in Mississippi, King began performing in the 1940s, going on to influence a generation of musicians and work with Eric Clapton and U2.

Once ranked as the third greatest guitarist of all time, he had been suffering ill health in recent months.

He was recently taken to hospital with a diabetes-related illness.

The Blues has some excellent young talent to keep up the standard that BB King set

I've been listening to BB King all day, so many great songs and performances. I got to see BB in the early 90's and it was truly amazing. I was so totally blown away to hear just how tight and crisp his band was, absolutely impressive. When BB came on stage, you could feel the electricity in the air.....BB would sing then Lucille would sing, the two of them went back and forth all evening, just a magnificent night of music.

Such a sad day, it's hard to lose a star that shined as bright as BB King. Today, I have the blues....

RIP, Mr. King.

One of my dad's fondest memories, being the huge blues fan/guitar man that he was, was back in the '60s, spending his entire paycheck + some savings on a Gibson ES-330, like BB King used to play on (before his 335 and 355 days & the Lucille legacy). And although my mom damm near killed him for it, lol, he still smiled about that until the day he died. He clocked 1000's of hours and a few decades of play on that wonderful guitar, one of his many guitars, but by far his most beloved. I now hold onto her for him. I know she is not a 355, but I call her Little Lucille, anyway. And she is a raving beauty. :)

Mr. King the Legend, inspired the other legends that we so love today. Without him and the other Great Blues Legends, who knows where music would be now?? Scary and kind of sad to think about. We needed BB King, and thank god he was there for us.
