Sign Barber to a multi-year contract. he's not a superstar so he's not going to break the cap. dallas can give him smaller base salaries in 2008 and 2009, and start giving him his money in 2010 when its already a given there will be no cap.

Resign Hamlin not only because he had a great yr, but the guy is only 27. He's the future of the secondary. Some think its Newman, but Hamlin was the missing piece. I think he could be signed to a deal like Barber, bigger base salaries twards the back of the contract. 3-4 mil a yr for Hamlin would be about right for his first yr of a new deal.

Tender Canty, for him a first roud tender will probably be in the range of 2 mil. not bad, for him and the cowboys.

Try like hell t0 trade Spears and Carp, and free up more cap

Release:
Terry Glenn, or sign him to a minimum contract, which he most likely wont do. He has no roster bonus this yr so dallas can outright release him if they want.

Let him walk:
Flozell Adams, its time to move on.

FreeAgency:
I think dallas will sign 1 maybe 2 guys this yr as theres not really an big holes.

WR:
Bernard Berrian, is the guy im hoping they sign. Might be able to be had for around 2.5 in his first yr of his contract.

CB:
Drayton Florence, familiar with wade phillips. Solid nickle back, and can actually challenge Henry to start. Henry if he hows weakness this TC he can be cut and dallas would end up adding to the cap

DRAFT:
rd1 a.22
Dominique Rogers-Cromartie: this guy is going to be the real deal. and could possibly make it easier to say bye to henry.

rd1 b.28
Felix Jones: i don like this guy but i think jerry has his sights on him. theres no doubt he would be a good compliment to Barber, but i just dont like his compliment in round 1.

rd2
Keenan Burton: very good wr from Kentucky. Great hands, and runs very good routes. Can learn under TO for a couple yrs. Until dallas wins the superbowl, and TO rides off into the sunset.

rd3
Barry Richardson: i think thenext LT for the cowboys will be either McQ or Free, richardson can swtch to guard and be a huge replacement for kosier in 09. Huge meaning the guy s really big.

rd4
Patrick Lee: cb that might be higher as the draft gets closer, but i'd love to hae him in dallas.

rd5
Jordy Nelson: big wr that just does everything good. nothing great, and the guy just catches everything thrown at him.

rd6
jacob hester: could be the type of FB that dallas can utilized. good at receiving out of the backfield. a devistating blocker, and can giv u a few knock the defense on their *** runs.

rd7
Jonathon Goff: depth at inside might be a small need i Carpenter is traded.

Like the idea of signing Barber long term and keeping Canty.. no reason to get rid of spears though. he is not flashy but he is solid. He does a lot to help control the run game on defense.

Stay away from Bernard.. he is not what this team needs,,imo.

I like the pick of Florence in place of Reeves. With Barber as the starting RB, i don't see the need to pick up a RB in the 1st regardless of who it is. A complimentary back can be found later in the draft or an Undrafted FA.

I hope we go CB with both 1st round picks. And one of those needs to be able to step in and return kicks. I would also look for a WR early, wouldn't be upset with one of the first going to a WR either, as long as they get someone that can return kicks.

This team is not that far away. IMO we need depth at CB, WR and someone that can actually be a threat in the return game. All other positions will just be back ups for the next couple of years anyway.

I would love the Cowboys to sign Florence, he's been my favorite target since the list of free agent CBs was made on this site. Sure he's not Samuel, Trufant or As...whatever from Oakland. What Florence is though is the best of the 2nd tier of CBs, he's only 26 or 27 and could challenge Henry in camp for a starting spot. That said though if he beats out Henry I think Dallas would still keep Henry and bring him in on the nickle and dime packages, allowing Newman to move to the slot. Who knows, by midseason though one of the draft picks could end up being the 3rd corner back on the field.

No problem with any of the above mentioned. I think re-signing Barber and Hamlin should be our main priority this offseason. I don't think it will happen, but I hope Hamlin takes over as starting SS while Henry and Watkins split FS duties. Use Roy for obvious run and goal line situations, and maybe as a Nickel LB.

WR:
Bernard Berrian, is the guy im hoping they sign. Might be able to be had for around 2.5 in his first yr of his contract.
I love his speed and explosiveness. I think he would compliment Owens well and fly under the radar.
CB:
Drayton Florence, familiar with wade phillips. Solid nickle back, and can actually challenge Henry to start. Henry if he hows weakness this TC he can be cut and dallas would end up adding to the cap
I'm not sold on Drayton Florence. I think he benefits from the scheme he is in and may get exposed. He would be an upgrade over Reeves though if we could get him fairly cheep. Honestly, the only FA CB I am interested in is Asamuga from Oakland but I think he will get franchised. Samuels is going to want way too much money.

DRAFT:
rd1 a.22
Dominique Rogers-Cromartie: this guy is going to be the real deal. and could possibly make it easier to say bye to henry.

rd1 b.28
Felix Jones: i don like this guy but i think jerry has his sights on him. theres no doubt he would be a good compliment to Barber, but i just dont like his compliment in round 1.
Again, I can't argue with that. Both would be solid additions to our squad.

rd2
Keenan Burton: very good wr from Kentucky. Great hands, and runs very good routes. Can learn under TO for a couple yrs. Until dallas wins the superbowl, and TO rides off into the sunset.
I have a special report on sleeper wide receivers coming up soon and Burton is one that caught my eye. He really does catch everything thrown his way. Reminds me a lot of Patrick Crayton. However, I like his teammate Steve Johnson better. He is younger and has more upside, and could be had in the later rounds.

No arguments here.
rd5
Jordy Nelson: big wr that just does everything good. nothing great, and the guy just catches everything thrown at him.
BINGO!!! We have a winner! I am really high on this kid...I have no idea why he isn't rated higher on draft boards. I think this kid is going to be a star and you will see why when my value chart for receivers is complete. He has the size (6-2, 215) to be a huge star and the production to prove it (Rec: 122 Yards: 1606 TD: 11) this year. His 40 time (4.54) could be better but I think 4.5 is plenty fast enough to be a threat and get the job done.
rd6
jacob hester: could be the type of FB that dallas can utilized. good at receiving out of the backfield. a devistating blocker, and can giv u a few knock the defense on their *** runs.

rd7
Jonathon Goff: depth at inside might be a small need i Carpenter is traded.
I don't know enough about Hester to know if he will be an improvement over Anderson, but he should at least provide depth. I don't think Goff last until the seventh round though. I have my eyes on him as well but I think he will go in round 5 or 6 at the latest.

I am not a big Drayton Florence fan. I live in San Diego and he is the Charger version of Reeves. I think we would be much better off trying some young talent in the draft - if we use one of our 1st two picks on a CB we should be able to come up with a keeper.

Good idea on Hester in the later rounds. He is a good all-around football player and unselfish. Good hands, good blocker and excels on special teams. Good kid.

I love the idea of drafting Jordy Nelson and Jacob Hester. I have watched both on several occasions. Nelson is not flashy but just catches everything thrown his way. He is not fast but seems to outrun most DB's. He will go over the middle and make the big catch and take the big hit. I love this kid. As far as Hester is concerned, he just seems to find yards everytime he touches the ball. One thing I noticed in particular was that he rarely, if ever, seems to go backwards from a hit. Generally he will fall forward at the end of a play to pick up an extra yard or so. If you watch any replays of LSU games, pay close attention to how often he falls forward at the end of a run. Again, he is not flashy and not fast, but he just seems to make yards everytime he touches the ball.

We need someone to stretch the field AND CATCH THE FOOTBALL. Berrian doesn't do the latter very well. There are other options that fit the bill better than Berrian does. Terry Glenn for instance. :D

terry glenn is finished

i like how posters like you post about stringing along older players every yr, but then ur the first to complain about the team keeping players too long.

I like how you're one of the few people who has us looking at Hester. I think he's going to wind up being a jack of all trades steal for some team in the draft.

I like Hester too, I think he'd more of the H-Back type though, and we've already got Deon to fit that roll. At that point, we may as well stick with what we have.

Berrian caught 71 passes for nearly a 1000 yards, and he did it with the Bears. The guy is a solid player. And he doesn't drop that many passes. He wasn't in the top 20 in drops in the NFC according to Stats inc (the list I saw only had the top 20 in each conference)

The stats might say that but I've seen a few Bears games and he sure seems to drop an awful lot of catchable passes. We already have a guy like that in T.O. Having guys like that at both ends is going to drive me mad!
