Was over at the Bears' forums-they're really a nice bunch. Anyhow-hear is their take on what Tank brings to the table...(His ON the field talents, NOT off-the-field problems, that is)
When Tommie Harris went down last year, how did he do being a run stuffer and pass rusher?-I think he did really well. The guy plays with a motor....no doubt. I remember numerous occasions where he made stops behind the line of scrimage or created enough penetration to rush the QB or get a sack. In fact, the guy plays with a heck of a lot of energy, which I loved. AND I agree. Tank was a very nice acquisition, and really took to the NFL quite well. ON the field.
In your opinion, do you think he can play NT in the 3-4?-I really don't think so. He is much too small at this point to really clog that middle. He really fits the mold of a pass rushing DT, more than a run stuffer.
What other strenths does he bring to the table?-He owns a lot of guns...so you have protection. But seriously, I really liked the energy and intensity he played with on the field. He was always amped up and ready to go. He is not a good fit for your 3-4 scheme however. He is too big to play an end spot and too small for the NT position.
Tanks fine on the field but he can't stay out of trouble. He's got that entitlement bullsh*t and so does his family so you can pretty much assume he's never going to learn. He'll keep getting in trouble over and over until he's banned for life. In short... he's perfect for the Cowboys. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
It would be pretty funny if the Cowboys invested in a replacement for their injured NT that won't even be able to play for the first half of the season. That's not a smart move for a team that thinks they're going to the playoffs.
Seriously though, he'd be perfect for a team that doesn't need him now. If you've got an aging NT and are willing to babysit him, he'll make a pretty decent starter. I don't think he'll ever be a ProBowler, but he'll be solid.
besides the off the field problems I think Tank has a lot of Football talent....not much in the brains dept. though from what he showed here.
Tank has some decent football talent, however I don't think that he is really suited to play NT in a 3-4 defense. The only reason that I say that is because he is a decent pass rusher but he was getting tossed around a bit in the run game when he was not lining up next to Tommie Harris.
