Bears fire GM Jerry Angelo

He blew their season because he refused to get a Qb after Cutler went down...

Who were the options? Bring Brett out of retirement(after seeing how bad he was last year?), McNabb(terrible for Commanders and Vikings)?

The only legit option was Kyle Orton, and the Chiefs claimed him before the Bears had a chance with the waiver order.

McFlabb would of been a better option then what they put out there....They were in a playoff hunt...all they needed was a vet QB....instead they put out a QB out there that was worse then Quincy Carter....the kid was bad....really bad..

He should of gave the coach and players a chance........instead...he blew their chance for the playoffs.

Agreed Mash. Watching them lean on Hanie was brutal. McNabb would have kept them in the mix, declining skills aside.

It is very tough to learn a playbook and get down the timing halfway through the season. Mcnabb doesn't strike me as the type if guy who could pick up an offense like mike martz runs midway

Can we package him with Polian and Jerry and have a trident GM position? :D

Plus, I believe I heard about his time in Wash that he was lazy and didn't feel he needed to put in the work. Try throwing him in a team that late in the year would be way worse than Haine was.

Just about every team in the league struggles once their starting QB is lost to injury. There are a few teams that don't see a drop off when their second stringer hits the field because their starter wasn't very good to begin with. There is a shortage of quality QBs in the league. Not every team is blessed with a good QB and there are even fewer quality backups.

didnt they also lose Forte to injury late in the year? If so, that is a huge blow, as he is #1 in the league as far as % of team offense.....the way Emmitt was for us in the early 90s.

yeah they did, & i think that was the final nail in the coffin for angelo.

As was pointed out there was only McNabb and in case you didn't miss it he was so awful with the Vikings that they benched and then cut him.

He's done. He wouldn't have done anything more than the awful QB in Chicago did because McNabb is also that awful at this point.

Also, I'm just curious, but I thought i've read on these boards a bunch of times that it's the Head Coaches job to decide who his players are and aren't. So why are you, or anyone, putting that on the GM if you don't know if Lovie Smith told him he wanted to go with what he had?

Or is this one of those cases where the GM is just supposed to go out and do something, over the HC's head, and it would be ok in this instance?

Exactly.

Let's not pretend that losing the majority of this offense to injury had nothing to do with it.

He's done nothing but give Lovie Smith ridiculously bad talent to work with.

If Lance Briggs doesn't pan out for that team (3rd round pick) the only guy worth a crap is Urlacher and they likely end up a lot worse than they are.

i think because of the injuries, he should have been given 1 more year....but the owners felt differently.
