The Bears signed Cutler to a seven-year, $126.7 million contract this offseason, including $54 million guaranteed, which was met with skepticism from Windy City fans the day the ink dried.

According to Rapoport, there is serious doubt within the organization that Cutler can lead them where it wants to go -- namely, the Super Bowl.

So the Bears re-sign a QB whose average rank in passer rating over his career is 17th.

For the 2014 season, he ranks...17th.

They have paid a lot for Cutler not just in salary, but also in the draft picks it took to acquire him from Denver. They have received very little in return for their investment.

That was an obviously horrible move the day it happened. You have to scratch your head sometimes at how NFL teams operate because they do a lot of things that just make zero sense from the outside looking in. It's got to be one of those things where you really can't see the forrest for the trees when you're in the thick of it. There's no other explanation for committing that much of your cash and your cap to a guy like Cutler the offseason after you see his journeyman backup perform at a similar level for an extended period of time for much less money. This was obviously somebody compounding their earlier mistake by doubling down on it.
