Beasley's injury(s)

No team dedicated two guys to Beasley, teams just had LB more or less stay near the LOS cutting off anything short which is Beasley's bread and butter. No team had two guys on him, it was more like basketball post play denial, have guy hanging around that just so happens disrupts Beasley's strength which was the option route.

OK my bad but he was still the focus of defensive coor and I'm pretty sure being Dak's 2016 leading receiver had some to do with it. To say he's overrated is just odd IMO.......

I vow to unleash horrific repercussions upon the very existence of yer' fellow humankind should yer' response contain the semblance and/or facsimile thereof , pertaining to "RATIONAL/ REAL & possibly even OBJECTIVE VIEWS , should they be found within it's very confines of response:angry:

I haven’t been drinking enough today, I’ll mark this post and respond at a more appropriate time

He's our slot receiver, not the X or the Z. In our scheme that's usually short to mid-range routes, not deep field stretching routes.

One off season & the poor guy is now a bum. Maybe if some of our other receivers didn't also have off seasons, they could have made up for it. Of course we did get rid of them.

I can't blame you. His name is 'hanging off the page' of mine right now.
I have to agree any WR missing time just gives the next man up a better chance to make the team. Making it more and more TW makes the team. Refering to Thompson not Beasley

Technically his one "good" season is more an outlier than last year. He is closer to 40-50 rec guy than he is a 70+ rec guy.

Plus, 2016 Dak was new and nobody knew how to defend him or his tendencies.......particularly those first 8-9 games when he was looking like Tom Brady jr. But 2017 was a different story. Defenses took those easy over the middle catch and run plays away which pretty much nullified Beasley. Its going to be very interesting to see how Garret and Linehan adapt to what defenses did to our passing game last year.

Even better that it's only preseason and the team is being extra cautious. I'm more worried about Deonte Thompson. He was supposed to bring a deep threat and the guy can't get on the field. If he doesn't get back soon, or if this looks like a lingering issue, I don't think he makes the team.

I'm not sure Thompson makes the team even if healthy. As long as Tavon Austin is healthy, I doubt Thompson plays much.

all sounds precautionary at this point...he is not a worry to be ready, just needs to get healthy

Hope this isn't a lingering issue.....they seem to have cast a wide net with B

Cole Beasley - WR - Cowboys
Cole Beasley (groin) will not play in the Cowboys' second preseason game.

He also missed Dallas' preseason opener. Beasley has battled soft-tissue injuries for an extended period, also dealing with hamstring problems since November of 2016. Beasley has topped 50 yards just once over his last 21 games.

Keep in mind that Garrett is very cautious about injuries, especially in the preseason.

I think Garrett figured out during the Miles Austin years that he should double the amount of time the trainers recommed for the player to be limited.

More than odd, it's uninformed. Once he has to put down the stat sheet and actually explain why Beasley is overrated in our system instead of comparing his stats to others running different systems you'll see that argument fall apart pretty quickly if it hasn't already.

6 years in the league. 20 TDs. 250 catches. 2600 yards. That’s over 6 seasons. That’s about half of Doug Baldwin’s production. Travis Benjamin has over 100 more catches. Marvin Jones drafted the same year has more yards, more TDs. Rishard Matthews drafted in round 7 has way better numbers. Cole does have better numbers than Rod Streater though. That I will agree with.

Beasley is a prime example of a player that benefits from fan bias.

Look at the numbers. He’s ok. Very, very replaceable. IMO Hurns and Austin are better choices in the slot.

Yes, because as we all know, fan bias is what tips Jerry's decision making about players and coaches.

I like Cole Beasley but he's not worth more than $6 million a season. Probably why they brought in Allen Hurns.

Beasley had one legitimately great season, 2016. Football Outsiders had him as the 5th-best receiver in the league, despite having much lower volume than many others. The ridiculously high catch rate combined with a decent volume (75 catches), a decent ypa and a decent number of TDs and zero turnovers to make him really valuable.

But he's never had another season like that. He was that guy in 2014, but fewer than half the catches. He wasn't nearly as good on a per-play basis in 2015 or 2017 and had much less volume.

People are focused on his 2016 ceiling when they get all excited. One great season doesn't make a great player, though.

Nobody thinks Cole Beasley is an elite WR though.

He’s just hard to stop at what he does unless you sell out to stop it.

Teams did that last year and Dallas didn’t make them pay for it.
Basically hes a good complimentary piece.

Beasley is a very good slot WR. He does what he’s asked and moves the chains on 3rd down. He’s a weapon in that sense.

No one here claims he’s Calvin Johnson. But a significant Beasley injury would have a pretty darn big impact on this offense.

Hurns, Thompson, and Austin fill in nicely.

Agree. I hate throwing the word great around. Beasley was good not great. Julio Jones is great. Antonio Brown is great. Beasley is average to good and almost 30.

Your not lying, but Baldwin is a WR1 all day. Beasley isnt close to that. Fans like him because his stop and go skills are incredible and most of us probably feel like our offensive gurus could've probably used him better.

Hurns, Thompson, and Austin fill in nicely.

1) Hurns will likely primarily play outside

2) Beasley and Thompson have both been in the league since 2012, but Beasley has more than 2.5x the yards, 3.2x the receptions, and 5x the TD. The only thing Thompson has on Beasley is straight-line speed, and if that’s what we’re talking about, Austin has more than both of them...

3) Yet, despite that, Beasley has 1,000 more yards and 2x as many TDs Austin, and averages more yards per reception.

So far in their careers, the only WR you listed who comes close to Beasley statistically is Hurns.
