It has always been known that if you pressure Bledsoe you can rattle him into making mistakes. The Eagles knew that and banked on it. They blitzed up the middle often and it worked. They have showed every team were gonna play this year that even with a banged up secondary you can beat Bledsoe with pressure.

Early in the week Bledsoe dared the Eagles to blitz him. Maybe thats because he was actually scared of the blitz and was bluffing? Even though I know Parcells knows this is Bledsoes weakness. So if you know this is the weakness why dont you game plan against it?

Why not play more shotgun formations on passing downs to give your QB and extra second or two? Bledsoe is not fast at backpeddling nor is he mobile enough to make defenders miss. He needs the extra 5 yards to give him time! We were getting eaten alive up the middle while Bledsoe was backpeddling and could not set his feet to throw and was having his arm slapped while throwing.

Why no audibles to quick slants for TO or Glenn? The only audible was for max protection which did not work because the blitz was coming from the middle not the outside.

What about screen plays expecially up the middle?

We ran the ball effectively in the first half but failed to be paitent in the second half. Why?

All you need is to beat the blitz a couple of times and team will be hesitant to use it. But as the Eagles showed if you cant beat the blitz they will continue to come often. The ajustments at halftime were not made and that falls on the coaching.

The Eagles effectively took TO and Glenn out of the game by not allowing Bledsoe enough time for the receivers enough time to run the route. We should have short quick tosses to our recievers and allowed them to run one on one (Ala Steve Smith and Santana Moss).

We know Bledsoes weakness and must find a way to protect him if we are going to be sucsessful. If we dont get this fixed we will be a .500 team the remainder of the season. Im hoping we learn from this game and get the problem fixed.

All in all we played with heart today, even after being down 10 points early in a hostile enviroment our team did not give up.

I have faith that this loss will be a hard loss to swallow for the players and that they come out determined to find the solution and fix the problem. :star:

Good post. I was loudly voicing the same opinion of the play calling during the game. You knew Philthy was going to blitz. What the heck did we practice all week?

Maybe we were able to handle our own defense's blitzing during practice because we suck at it and it gave our O confidence that we could handle Philthy's.

A very good, well articulated and intelligent post. I agree with pretty much everything. Bledsoe is a decent QB, but like others have said, we're not winning anything with him at the helm.

I think what he said is that he is too stupid to watch for the football and monitor the defense at the same time.

I don't know, but it sure felt like it got ugly as soon as Drew got rattled, and that happened pretty early.

We just had an entire off season to fix the problem. Obviously it didn't work. What makes you think we can now in season?

Bledsoe may hate the shotgun but i guarantee he hate being sacked 7 times too!

Im sure we may have practiced the blitzing from all different angles during the week but Philly overloaded the center positionwith two blitzing linebackers which we were not ready for. A backpeddling Bledsoe is a heck of alot slower then TWO linebackers and an Dlineman up the middle. Thats why we needed the shotgun to give Bledsoe the extra 5 yards to survey the field. He could not look up at the receivers with the blitz in his face therefore he could not make them pay for blitzing.

Philly banked that the linebackers would pressure Bledsoe before the two tightends and receivers could run their route. They doubled the recievers with the safties and did not worry about the linebackers since we were in "Max Protection." The only problem was that tightends couldnt block where they were blitzing from which was over the center. We did not make the proper adjustments to make them pay for blitzing so they kept on coming. Plain and simple. The has to be fixed by next week or Houston will do the same.

The Line play is much improved from last year. The fix for this problem is playcalling, Screens, Pitchouts, Quick slants and so on. Gurode as a center has done pretty good this year. Its just too hard to block three people at once.
