Never tried them but usually if it's not someone I think highly of they won't be getting anything but cheap earphones at the dollar store unless I see a Chia pet or a pencil set on the way in. The sky is the limit for some I know but others are lucky just to receive a card from me. I only purchase cheap gifts for relatives I haven't seen or heard from in years. If it's someone I haven't seen in let's say 15 years I'll send them a sausage sampler box for Christmas. It's one of those gifts that says I really don't care but I felt obligated.

Branding. They aren't bad from what I hear, just way overpriced. Most generic $5-$10 earbuds aren't that hot though. There are actual differences in quality. If I was going to spend $300 on earphones, I'd be looking at Sennheiser.

Nothing. They're a fashion accessory. You can get better sound quality at the $75 mark.

I would never spend a that much on headphones, but from what I understand, they sound quality is top of the line

I just asked my kids the best they've gotten, they like to get semi expensive headphones. Their favorite is a pair of Sony headphones, they were $100 pair. I am using the headphones they cast off for these. They are awesome, also Sony, regular $60. The bass is tops in these. I actually like them better than the $100 pair, I think the bass is better, but of course Mom is wrong about that. lol. They are about a year old now though, and still kicking, which says something about the quality, because most headphone wires break long before that.

My younger son said he and a friend were at WalMart the other day and there were Beats headphones on display, the $150 pair, and he actually thought his Sony's had better bass. Couldn't judge the $300 pair because the were hooked up to a radio that wasn't working. lol. WalMart, SMH.

I personally have never spent more than 20 bucks on headphones, you know the eardrum shredding quality ones, lol, so I am very lucky that my kids are bigger spenders than I am.

Yep, fashion accessory for sure. I might buy Beats resale, used, if reasonably priced, but never new at a store when they are so obviously WAAAAAAAAAY overpriced.

People are dumb.

We go from jumbo head sets

To

Much smaller inner ear sets..

Then

They get dr dre and a fancy, creative name NOT "beats"

And

It's becomes hip and trendy

There is an adage in marketing. If something doesn't sell. Send it to America. They will buy anything.

Dumb.

Nah, you'd have to spend in the neighborhood of $75 and upwards to get decent sound and comfort. I don't think $300 is too much for a high end set. But no way am I buying that overpriced Beats crap.

The bass has no detail. Its just loud... but If you like music with heavy bass, and aren't picky... or if you're a child (fashion), they are for you....
(Monster, who distributed beats initially is also very bass heavy)

Bowers and Wilkens or Harman Kardon all day for me.
especially B&W... they reproduce sound as its mean to be heard... fine detail...

Sennheiser, Sure, & Sony also make quality phones, of course....
Bose is good if your music is acoustic based

The only thing special about them is their marketing campaign. Somehow or another they became the fashionable selection for teens and 20-somethings. So they get to charge a premium for the privilege of buying them.

I stick with Bose because I like superior quality.
