With another failed and in this case collapsed season it’s become easier for me to turn off and or detach emotions .

As a diehard I’ll continue to watch but in a ho hum state of mind . I spend less time reading and listening about the Cowboys including less time on this site.

It’s just not very interesting to me. And it’s less painful. I’ve taken an Apathetic approach for decades anyway under our dysfunctional organization so it doesn’t take much additional effort.

I have to put coffee on to avoid dozing off during the game. I have a 60 year streak watching Cowboy games so won’t let that be broken anymore than missing a SB in . I don’t have a second team , etc so the NFL as a result becomes more boring as well when we aren’t in contention or even in the game .

Fortunately I have Amateur Football to dive in. College Football has supplied all of the excitement to fill in much of the void. I’ve attended and traveled to games and traveled to a new venue this season. I have plans for more next year. A new playoff series creates some new excitement and a NFL type playoff system. 4 weeks of playoff football. I can hardly wait.

And my high school is on another state championship run. I’ve also attended key matchups and attending a playoff game this weekend . Friday Night lites is still alive and well in Texas.

I’m a football fan first. And there is much more for me to consume my emotion and excitement into. I’ll have to put my Cowboys on hold for another season and watch the NFL from a distance . Which unfortunately has become more of the norm this era.

The lack of Cowboys success this era has driven me more into College and High School football . And it’s filling my football hunger.

It was just really weird how they got rinsed by the Packers and had a status quo offseason.

1. Dak or McCarthy had to be let go.

2. Signing Dak to that deal a day before the season started is just bizarre. Wait till the last minute and then totally cave.

3. No offseason additions.

4. Wasting a 4th on Mingo (weird)

This team is screwed up bad right now and unfortunately I don’t know what they can do but maybe pull off a Herschel Walker type trade with Micah to get cheap players and get some cap relief to add legit talent.

And it’s not likely to be a better team next year as more Cap casualties on the way.

For a team on the need of a rebuild signing a less than Elite QB to a market breaking contract also looks awful.

A new HC and staff isn’t likely to bring much relief or renewed hope.

They gotta get back to ground and pound football.

Dak is not a big game player. No matter how much money they pay him when the lights shine the brightest he will always be a deer in the headlights.

Getting a strong run game is our shortcut to success.

It can protect the defense and protect Prescott.

I have many friends who are Lions fans. I can't complain about my Cowboys in front of them.

I honestly don't understand how they have been able to remain so loyal having never been in a Super Bowl and only two NFC championship games in 55 years.

My Cowboys are in the top five in the NFL for Super Bowl championships, but I can barely stand watching this team play without screaming.

I guess once you've experienced your team being the best, you never want it to stop. I'll keep watching them out of respect for their past accomplishments. I don't ever want to feel like a fair-weather fan.

Right. A fan who’s given up hope and in apathetic mode isn’t fair weather.

Accepting reality in any form throughout life better prepares you to take on the emotions attached.

Diehards continue watching and following however brutal it is.

It’s much like a loved one you hope eventually find their way.

And I’d add that fans like in Detroit are what this nation is built on. They continue following and watching their team but over the years they also detach or check their emotions.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t in support or jumping ship for another team. They just realize and have come to terms with what they are or have become .

Not all fans have the stomach to root for a loser. And how we end up with fans across the country hopping on teams from other areas with more success.

I hear you....but u must point out the contradictory here.

Your name is "DIE HARD blues".

Emotionally detached...and diehard, kinda don't go hand in hand

Perhaps you should change your name to "IntentionallyEmotionallyDistancedBlues"

It's Detroit...The Rust Belt. Hard core 'ers.

And if you've never been there (8 times), you wouldn't understand not being there and the epic failure we have now.

I will still watch every game regardless of how bad it gets.

However, I have stopped watching all MM shows, Special Edition, Rewind shows they put out weekly. It is the same old stuff over and over.
I stopped listening to the PC's long ago, and will not until thy actually mean something instead of the same old lip service given.

I still look at the headlines which are mostly posted here anyway. Just may not read the entire article at times. Will skim through them for some, if any, interesting worthwhile comments.

The last few weeks. I don't pay 100% attention to the local game day live show either. I will pay attention if something sounds interesting.
But I do the same with ESPN and NFLN as well. 90% is just crap information anyway.
Will have them on, but look at info here during that time. Or look up other stuff, such as stock / crypto research. Much better time spent.

I didn’t get emotional invested in the team at all this year. Even after beating the Browns after week one I knew this team had ran its course. It was time for a rebuild but Jerry thought otherwise.

Good for you finding other alternatives besides the Cowboys for your football fix.

I used to be like you, totally hardcore about football and the Cowboys until I started having kids. I have twin girls and once they got here, I realized just how unimportant football really is.

I have not watched a single Cowboy’s game live this season. Instead, I take my girls to the park or the zoo, or to get ice cream.

They are only going to be little for a little while, so taking advantage of this time with them is a hell of a lot more important than watching the sorry arse Cowboys.

Good for you. It doesn't make sense to put your heart into an organization that doesn't care about winning. I too love the Cowboys but I'm not so sure the FO cares about anything but their bottom line.

this has been inthe making for a while now. I started becoming number two years ago after the boom box boys first beat us. Really after the end of that season where we lost to Oakland and Kansas City. It showed me something. When we play really good teams, more often than not we’ll lose. The defense might hold string all game until the last possession when we need them to get off the field. If they don’t get, opted by the rushing game. Dak wont be the better qb when it matters most. These last couple of wining years, we haven’t had a statement win we just beat up on bad to average teams.we beat up on bad quarterbacks mostly.

its almost akin to how Infelt about Garett and Romo Cowboys until 214. When we beat Seattle’s at their best, that was a statement win. I knew we could beat anybody n their best day. I’ve needed felt that way about McCarthy and Dak cowboys. I never felt this defense was dominant even during the Dan Quinn years. They also feasted on bad teams. I was numb all last season. only time I got up was when Bland broke the record.

I'm sure OP is a UT fan. Wonder how invested in college he'd be if they weren't good this year.

And BTW, college isn't "amateur" anymore, either.

Actually I’m a Baylor alumni and fan. My wife is a Longhorn. I’m a self described tshirt Texas fan if it doesn’t conflict with Bears.

And I’ve always been a huge college fan. I’ve just dove into it even more in recent years despite Baylor being more of a dormant team most years which I credit mostly to lean years this era of Cowboys.

Sorry if I didn’t make it clear that I’ve always been a big college fan. And HS too. Does it help if your team is winning . Of course .

I love the tradition playing in historied stadiums my father and grandfather attended. And the spirit of competition. It’s difficult to duplicate the atmosphere .

I’ve found most who aren’t college fans probably didn’t either attend school which played football or didn’t grow up around a school which did. Also many who grew up in northeast as college football isn’t as big as in South and West.

I’d describe Diehard as continuing to follow, watch and support the team despite the lack of success.

It just helps ease the pain by detaching your emotions . It doesn’t mean not still disappointed and frustrated as everyone else .

How emotionally attached can fans be to a team and franchise as such?

Diehardblues name still fits perfectly.

As much of a critic I am of Jethro Jone$, he cares about winning… just not enough to get out of the way.

I'm with you except that I don't have any other avenues to satisfy my love for the game other than just casually watching other NFL games. I don't have a second team but there are some players around the league who I admire so I like to root for those guys.

I take satisfaction from watching Derrick Henry destroy NFL defenses, not only because he's thrilling to watch but because Jerry could've had him but seemingly never even entertained the idea despite Henry expressing interest in joining the team. Josh Allen is another one. I've liked the way he plays the game for years even if he is a little reckless. Dude is a football player, not just a QB.
