well I think this is the game we break them out...screens work great against an aggressive D-line...I truly expect the Cowboys will use many quick hitting plays counters/traps along with screens...I would imagine the Cowboys go up tempo this game...we will see but I think that is how I would call it.

Zaxor, this is one game that Marsellus Bennett better go out onto the carpet with his head attached to his shoulder pads...

Is there a different ratio of screen plays we run when playing against a team using the 3-4 vs a team using the 4-3?

Not sure BP but we ran screens very effectively in the preseason just to see them disappear the last 2 games I am expecting we will once again use them this game

also I am not sure this is accurate and it would take more time than I am willing to invest but I think we have a tendency to run things in a 3-4 game cycle ...by that I mean that certain plays are only run every 3rd or 4th game

I think they didn't run screens against the Skins because of Romo's ribs. You basically give the defense a free run a the Qb and I don't think JG wanted that.

yea exactly....

and people act like Screens are so safe nowadays.....you don't think teams know we want the screen? 1 mess up, and its a pick 6 or huge sack, or the RB might get blasted for a fumble.....it's not that safe anymore

especially when teams know you like to run it

.......but on the flip side Detroit likes to run alot of Screens with Best at RB...look for it. Also look for Lee, Spencer and Ware to be all over it:star:

I think we haven't seen it as much because teams are running a lot of zone stuff. If they were blitzing hardcore and running a lot of man, then I think we'd see more of them, but just because a team blitzes doesn't mean a screen will work. If the safeties, linebackers, and corners are in zone a screen is probably not going to work for you.

I believe if you were to check when the Cowboys were a good screen team (so go back to dorsett) we ran the middle screen very effective against zone

Screens have actually been killing us this year due to our D being extremely aggressive.

I believe we do not have Tony Dorsett, and defenses today are a hell of a lot faster than they were back then, too. :)

I've been hoping for more screens and expecting them, but if they're not being called, it must be for a reason.

Dallas did run some screen in the Washington game 1 was a TE sceen to Bennett. Screen are a good way to slow down a rush but you can't run them all the time. If defense knows it is coming the screen is a very easy play to stop. You mix in screens you don't live by them

He could just throw it into the dirt if need be.

Can't exactly agree with not running a screen in an effort to avoid getting a QB hit.

He can get rid of ball any time he wants by throwing at the feet of the RB

So at worst screens are no more dangerous than any other pass?

Agreed, but a TE screen is not that hot. The value is hitting a couple of them for 20 yds or so, then use that threat on some crossing or weak side stuff when the CBs cheat up on the back (ideally Felix or Murray).

In ways they are more dangerous. If the ball gets picked there is nothing between the defender and the goal line. That would be true on most short passes. May sound strange but the higher precentage passes come with a bigger risk. You throw a 50 yard bomb even if it is picked the likelyhood of the defender returning it the distace is not that good. On the other hand a screen or a 5 yard out if it picked off the only thing stopping the defender are white lines.

I said the same thing during the game thread. Usually with a good screen, the QB sells out and takes a shot.

I agree but there were many occations the skins gave a blitz look then backed out into zone so the odds of that play working is small.

If the defense is in the right coverage the screen is worthless when they are sending a blitz they tend to work. Although I will say with how fast many of these defense ends and LB are if they sniff it out they can recover in a hurry to disrupt it
